My 2006 Continental GTC has just failed it's MOT due to a failed front side light bulb. The MOT station had to ask me how to replace the bulb and I had no clue whatsoever. They thought that the whole of the front bumper may need to be removed.
Is this correct? and if so can any small garage business do it?

Thank you

Rosanne

Is it the side light or the one inside the headlights? If headlights you can do it yet it is a major PIA. If it is on the side of the car, move the oval assembly to the right (or left) with a wooden toothpick or stronger so as not to scratch the paint and it should then be able to pop out to change (very easy). It is a 5W bulb widely available anywhere. Usually I change both side lights at the same time because if one fails, the next is probably not far behind and it takes 2 minutes to change each side light.

Your speedy helpful answer is much appreciated. I'll go and check tomorrow. When you refer to lights being on the side of the car are you referring to the outer pair of lights there being 4 lights in total - 2 outer, 2 inner?
Many thanks,
Rosanne

Ideally most of the front end comes off for this. I have done it on the near side without bumper removal but you need very small hands, long fingers and plenty of swear words.

Enjoythemusic is one of our American members. Over there they have side marker lights.
In the UK it's the small lower outer bulb in the headlamp.
I tried to swap mine for LED's but gave up. The main dealer will most likely take off the bumper. (Unless the mechanic has small hands). You will probably still pay full whack though.

Try and find an independent specialist, much cheaper and in my experience, much more honest.

If you are anywhere near Crewe, there is a fantastic indy there!

It is possible to do in situ , tough and your hands look like they have been through a mincer but possible. There is a thread on the other forum for 6 speeders smile

The toughest part is getting the covers back on and seated properly.

Your reply is very helpful, thanks.
It is nice to know that it can be done without removing the bumper.
Unfortunately I'm not a DIYer and I'd be worried about breaking a finger nail, ha ha !!
Can you send me a link to the other forum you mentioned?
Thanks again

I agree. Very possible to do but a bit of a squeeze.
