My 2004 Bentley Gt engine cuts out as you slow down at a junction, only does it now and again, but starts straight away,is this fault likely to show up when it is plugged in to the computer diagnostic thing? Someone did say it could be a crank sensor?

I had a crank sensor fail on an Alfa once, and the symptoms were the same. That car pre-dated OBD though, so I don't know if the computer would pick it up or not....

Cheers,
Jeff.

A faulty MAF sensor caused a car I once had to do this, in that case you could prove it by disconnecting the MAF making the ECU run a default map which removed the problem.

2004 GTs tend to have a lot of electrical faults, mainly due to them being the first generation and therefore came with teething problems which were improved with newer models. It is very likely to be diagnosed with a VAS scan tool (VAG) and any RR&B specialist should have one. Any warning lamps on your dash? Could be one of a number of faults...

The exhaust system has two thermocouples to detect the gas temperatures. If one of these fails, the car thinks it is overheating and cuts out. Nothing shows up on the instrument panel. When mine did it, it took a Bentley main dealer three weeks to find the fault, but it should be well documented by now. I gather it's not too difficult to do it yourself, as long as you have three elbows in one arm. Wait till the exhaust pipe is cold!

Apparently there was a boost pipe not fitted properly to the turbo charger

Thanks for reporting back; too often threads just go quiet and you never find out what it was.

Cheers,
Jeff.

I too had a split/leaky boost pipe on my 2008 Speed. The issue manifested itself as a misfire on cylinders 11 and 12.

Bentley initially diagnosed it as probably the plugs as they were due for replacement but obviously that didn't fix the problem. It took them quite a while to locate it.

Possibly something to watch out for?

Andrew

I realise that the car has gone but would like to know whether it was a Bentley dealer that failed to get the diagnosis right.

It was an independant specialist,I've now got another one with full Bentley history, the last one had dodgy history
