My wife and I are flying from Heathrow to Dubai shortly - We're going for 7 nights from Terminal 3, flying with Emirates.

This morning I booked the parking at what Heathrow calls it's "short stay car park". From what I understand it's a multi-storey facility next to the departure hall. There's no shuttle bus involved, or so called "valet parking' where you give your keys to a complete stranger and hope for the best.

My question's are this:

1. Has anyone parked here in a large car and how small are the spaces?
2. Is anyone a regular user and do you have any tips, higher floors less busy, etc?

I'm not sure what to do for the best....... We have a 150 mile each way trip, so would like to take our 2016 Mulsanne Speed. However, the car is completely unmarked, so the last thing I want to do is return back and find door panels with dings in from adjacent cars, or worse, the front end missing, having been taken off due to it's 5.5 meter length hanging too far out of the space!

Any advice from any recent users of this car park, with a similar sized car would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

Allister

Go as high as you can for vacant spaces. Level 5 is open air and quieter than other levels. Go straight up to 3 for starters.

It's been busier than usual this week, I had to go up to 5 and even that level was crowded.

Bays are pretty narrow, but I usually manage to find an end bay or one next to the walkways. Plenty of people carriers manage to fit in, so you'll be ok.

There are 2 lifts, one at each end. Better one to aim for is the one at the end opposite where you enter the floor from the spiral ramp.

For departures, lift down to level 1, walk across enclosed bridge, lift down 1 floor to arrivals, walk through arrivals, shops on left, to departures.

Have fun...smile

Regarding damage, don't park near the trolley parks. There were hundred of the things dumped there this week, very close to adjacent cars.

I'd leave it at home. It's not worth the risk and might spoil your holiday fretting about it.

If your car means that much to you - which it should do being something so special then I recommend that you get a rental to and from the airport.

Dear All

Thank you for taking the time to respond...... It's a shame to have to leave the Bentley at home in the garage yet again but I think I'm going to take Stain's advice and take our old Range Rover instead. I'm sure the Bentley would be safe from theft, as it does have a Nav Tracker fitted but I'm more concerned about accidental damage due to it's size, and in particular it's 5.58 meter length.

I am trying to use the Mulsanne more, as I don't want it to spend it's entire life sat in the garage, but on reflection, I think leaving it for 7 days at Heathrow in a multi storey car park, probably is asking for trouble and as Stain suggests, I think it probably would play on my mind while away.

Thanks again to all for your comments.

Take the Range Rover. You don't want to spoil your break worrying about what might have happened to the Bentley. Not worth the agg

Thanks mybrainhurts, and thanks for the good info about where best to park at Heathrow - This will still be useful for parking the Range Rover

I parked the Phantom at the airport once. At 5.8m long this was the result and something I urge you to avoid.

I know this thread is really for car fanatics, but it was for Allister's and other reasons that I stopped leaving a car at Heathrow years ago. I too live 150 miles from Heathrow in the south-west of the UK, and on several occasions I have used trains to one of two stations - Woking or Reading - from which there is a fast, frequent, and very comfortable executive non-stop coach service from the forecourt of the stations to the appropriate terminal.
A bus, you say ? Well, yes, but think more on the lines of a Premiership footballer's transport than a Routemaster, and you'll get my drift.
Do I practice what I preach ? Yup. In April I will be flying to/from California, and will use that train-coach service of reaching Heathrow.

Wouldn't worry about that. Nobody ever actually walks on those walkways..
