Anyone bought a Vagcom cable direct from Rosstech in the states? Did you get stung on any import taxes? Works out considerably cheaper than buying from the UK distributors as far as I can see. $199 so approx £159 vs £225 from the uk distributors.

I found it worked out about the same once you'd added shipping, though it looks like they've changed the dongle since I bought it though, which is now VIN restricted.

Thanks, Just ran through the checkout and shipping is indeed $60 so its no cheaper, though the £159 was too good to be true. Mad for just a cable, back to the drawing board.

Search for and have a look at the OBDEleven. Seems to do most if not all that VAGCOM can do for circa £60. The only downside I've noted is that it seems to be a bit fussy on which Android phones it works with, it won't work on my Moto G but it's fine on an old Nexus 7 (2012). Will never be available for "i" products but it would be worth buying a cheap/used Android phone if needed. Don't be put off by the 'credits' system, you can do most things the long way with the Pro version.

Does it allow you to do an inspection service reset?

Yes. It's not a cheap clone dongle. It's a device with bespoke firmware and software to suit. There are numerous videos on YouTube giving a very good idea of what it can do. Its certainly worth a look. This gives you a flavour of some of the things it can do. The App and capabilities are still being developed/improved.
