2007 Continental GT opening boot when battery is flat

Hi there

How do you access the batteries in the boot when they are flat? Boot lock is electric and won't work - there is no key operation for the boot.

I saw some references online to accessing the boot area via the ski hatch and using a broom(!) to activate..... exactly what I don't know. I can't see anything inside the boot to aim for with the broom.

Can't find anything in the handbook.

I would be interested to know.

Good news is that even after leaving the thing for 4.5 months, I followed the "turn key to the left, wait for click, then start normally with key" instructions in the handbook. Nothing at first - then, having moved the gear lever from P to N and back to P - vroom - it started. Impressive,I thought, after all that time.

But if it hadn't started - how would I get to the batteries?

Hi.

Maybe if you leave it running for a while, or go for a drive, it might put enough charge into the main battery for the boot to open.
My emergency handle is on the left of the boot as you look from the rear of the car. It's about half way up, so, about 8 o'clock from the B button if you get what I mean.
Failing that, you could try and charge it through the fag lighter socket. They are live even with the ignition off.

Thanks. Darned if I can find any release handle in the boot area - anywhere. Mine is a 2007 GT - do all models have one?

Often there are positive and negative terminals in the engine bay you can connect a power source to. (At least there are with BMW's). That would probably solve the problem.

Sorry. Not sure if your year has it. Be surprised if there wasn't one though. It's so a trapped person could escape from a closed boot. That's what the emergency handle is for!

It's based on a US law. Only US cars (generally) have them.

It's an early 2004 GT coupe. Definitely a UK model, originally supplied by Bentley Leeds.

You need to remove the rear seat behind the driver, base first by pulling up hard at the front then remove the back by pushing down on it.
Behind there is a lever that releases the boot, best way is to get someone to push down on the boot lid at the same time as moving the lever. HTH

Does anyone know what the parts do on the latch in the boot, mine has a micro switch plus a long rod connecting to the paddles with a electrical conponent on the end of it?
