Under-rated ???

By whom ???

Pretty much anyone and everyone rates them very highly.
By whom?

Your good self, amongst others, Warren!

Which, I have argued against vigorously for ages.
Then, somehow, you have misunderstood me Ian smile

This is not unusual. You can have this discussion with Club members at meets who own GT's and Spurs, and there is no argument, they understand fully the debate and there is no disagreement as they too are old school, they often have several Rolls Royce/Bentley cars, of all types/generation, in their stable. Stating the bleedin' obvious as far as bloodline/lineage is concerned is never taken as rubbishing the new generation W12 product, more a case of 'Vive la difference'.

That's fair enough, Warren, but i still don't buy the saying i so often hear about them not being 'real' Bentleys.
A post on page 1 of this thread is from someone who clearly hears the same things!

This is a real Bentley...

This is a Rolls Royce...

And this is also a Rolls Royce, despite being conceived, developed and introduced long after Rolls Royce had split from Bentley...

Continental GT / Flying Spur are almost "too good". Turbo Rs, Arnages, Continental R/S/T etc. are flawed, but all the more fun for it. The CGT feels calm at any speed (well any speed I've driven one), but the last time I drove an Arnage T, when I put my foot down it felt like the horse had bolted and I just had to hang on for dear life - exhilarating! I guess the V8s just seem closer to the spirit of the WOs than the W12s do. But they're all great cars: underrate them at your peril!

I have blagged a drive of the new 600 bhp Continental.
That should be fun, looking forward.
For me, the engine is a better unit than the old V8 lump.

Indeed, but I was looking at a 1957 DKW at Donington yesterday, the bonnet was open, and as I looked inside, it was like looking at a Continental GT or a Flying Spur. Not surprising though really, as that is where the bloodline leads back to.

If you blag a drive in a Brooklands though, you MUST take me with you wink
