Wife decided she wanted a convertible mini had to be an 07 08 plate and a Sidewalk any colour but Black.
went to our local dealer who specialise in mini's HJ with cash, expecting to drive away in a car after they had told us there was a tidy sidewalk just come in.
this was sunday, but on arrival it needed tidying to bring up to there Cherished Standard which is a 3 stage process, and were told it would be ready tues/wed and would be mint because they have a reputation to uphold, everything on the car would be perfect as there cherished standard is to a very high quality standard. So we left a deposit of £1000 (only £500 was required but we were so impressed with the assurances of a quality finish and after sales service, from the sales man) Thursday am no call, so the wife called at lunchtime to ask when we could collect the car with cash, we were told to make an appointment for Friday at 5pm and everything would be ready for us. The original salesman wasn't there as going on holiday, and were told to ask for @@@@ we arrived at 4.50
the salesman was with another customer and asked us to wait (no problem) we asked for the keys so we could go around the car while he was dealing with the other customer but were asked to wait again (just thought it might save a little time) 25 mins later somebody else came out, got the keys but half the problems with the car hadn't been corrected and there was a bad mark on the rear leather seat that was previously unmarked, sales manager came out, saying we can pay for the car and everything would be ready for the following tuesday/wednesday, wife reminded him about the full tank of petrol and mats which were included in the sale as a sweetner as they wouldn't budge on the original price, but he didn't know anything about it, and insisted we pay now and pick it up the following week, we said that we would pay for the car when its ready to take away.
Got cash and now taken over a week, not kept to there promises and overall attitude now they had our deposit, not happy so called in and cancelled on sun. phoned on Mon to ask when we could get our deposit back, told would have to deduct expenses incured for prepping the car and would have to reduce the sale price and the difference would be deducted from our deposit, now getting a bit p155ed off, after numerous calls to them, leaving messages for them to call back they eventually agreed to give us our deposit back. why so much hassle ? A friend has also had issues with this same dealer, but you never find out these things until after the event. Will never buy a car from HJ thats for sure.
Called up a couple of other dealers who wanted a £500 deposit by credit card to secure a car for us to view ? what the fck is going on ? where are the days when you can walk into a dealer and drive away in a car ? Now got a beautiful sidewalk convertible 08 13k genuine miles Private sale, wife loves it, and I have my brownie points.

I understand the deposit thing for testing a car is becoming common place. If we all say now I hope they will stop this.

When we went to look at our car, albeit not as expensive as yours, the one man band threw us the keys and said off you go, have a drive. I guess we had innocent looking faces. That was Sunday, picked it up on the Monday..............

I had the same problem with a mini dealer when buying there demo John cooper works a month ago.

I've had 9 MINI's this one was the most expensive one I'd ever purchased and was the worst condition of any of the previous ones.

I think the problem is down to the dealer staff ....... Most have never been in he motor trade and the 'sales mangers' seem to be female without a clue .....

Harsh but its my own personal experience
