R53 JCW MCS - Crystal ball required......
Discussion
I have probably one of the highest spec R53 JCW (non GP)cars in the country. It is my wife's daily driver now sporting 54K miles and it hasn't missed a beat. We have owned our fair share of R53 and R56 mini Cooper S and JCW models in the past and this is, without doubt, the best one we have owned. No rattles, lovely ride etc. etc.
With my car also being of no use for the 2 kids we currently have a 3rd 'family' car that is only used at weekends if we all go out together.
I keep thinking we should trade in the family bus for something newer for her to use and sell the mini privately and hence cut out a 3rd set of maintenance, tax, insurance, depreciation etc. I was wondering what people more in the know of mini world thought might happen to the values of top flight JCW cars? It's a 2006, so one of the last R53 cars - do you think it is going to remain very sought after and level out price wise? Or am I just funding 3 depreciating cars?

I would think that it will still go down in price. But you have probably seen the biggest drop from new to now. I would keep it as you are looking at the running cost + £300 ??? a year drop from now on. If it has a good spec it would go well but not at much up on price as aposed to any othere R53 JCW.
But as you say my Crystal ball may be a bit clody.

I am averaging 32.4mpg with a mixture of urban and B road blasting plus the occasional m'way stretch.
To put in context for you I have just bought mine (about 6 weeks ago now).
It is an 05 plate MCS JCW (it doesn't have the big brake kit). Half leather. 60,000 on the clock and it was 7.5k private.
To me when I was looking around it almost appears like the JCW aren't holding their value as well as the standard S in the open market.
If you are looking to sell it, go and have a look on some of the dedicated Mini forums as it is more likely to get lapped up there, plus you know it will be going to a good home.
Edited for speeling

I bought my MCS 3 years ago and sold it two years ago for circa £7k.
I should have just kept it.
Minimal depreciation!

guys - think it will be staying with us for a while, but I would also be looking for more like 10K+ for ours - it was £36K new!
Have a look on TotalMini or Mini2 and see how it compares to the ones up for sale on there. That will give you a better idea of what it is worth.Gassing Station | New MINIs | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
