I am struggling desperately here. My mum wants a new mini, and I have been tasked with sorting it for her. The only issue is the mini website was designed by a total and utter pilloc and makes no sense at all. She needs to buy it through mini as my Dad gets a military discount through them.

She wants the cheapest mini that comes with an auto box. The web site however makes no mention of any automatic boxes or what models it is tied to. She also wants union jacks on the wing mirrors, but again the website shows no mention of it?

Why cant these flipping websites be designed with a simple drop down box selection (like auto trader etc) for those of us that grew out of flashing pictures & bright lights years ago....

Can any mini owners shed any light on this?

Cheers guys

The wing mirrors and stuff are on the accessories section of the website I believe. I suppose you would have to go in and place an order at the showroom?

You should really look around the website properly before starting threads.

Auto boxes are not available on models lower than the MINI One and can be found on the optional equipment part of the build your own mini app as a £1215 extra.

The Mirror caps are not an option on the MINI One however you can pick them up for £50 off ebay and clip them on yourself.

A MINI One Petrol with nothing but an Auto Box comes at £14,615.

A MINI Cooper Petrol with an auto box that doesn't look like complete st comes in at £16,010.

Works OK for me. I think all but the misery-spec MINI First (with it's 75hp engine) can have an auto box, so cheapest one with it is a MINI One 1.6 petrol. With flat paint, basic cloth, steel wheels and no options besides the auto box, it's £14615.

Union jack mirrors are a dealer-fit "accessory" not a factory option, £103 - not sure if that's fitted or not.

Just been on the site and got the same result as sjg, Mini One 1.6 with auto option is £14,615, union jack mirrors in the accessories section are £103.

Sounds like me loosing patience with the site too quickly. Thanks for the pointers guys, much appreciated! smile

edit; Cant get over how expensive they are. Knew it wouldn't be cheap but by the time it is spec'd up to a respectable car (air con, alloys, met paint etc) and price... eek

Does she not like Fiat 500s? They are much cheaper and similar little retro-modern takes on small old cars.

To be fair, I own a Cooper S and its the best car i've ever owned or driven, not that that would matter to her of course but they are good little cars.

Can't speak for auto models but despite the high initial outlay MINIs work out quite cheap over time as they still hold their value quite well and once you factor in the TLC servicing and low road tax it really stacks up against the competition. Stripes/Union Jack mirrors etc look rubbish, much better without!

He gets it tax free, so it knocks 20% off.

I am back trying to do it, but cant find the options for the union jack on the roof or wing mirrors? For a car that is aimed at women, the site really isn't the most user friendly IMO. Lots of small buttons, and everything jumbled together. My mum and girlfriend both ave up when they tried to use it.

Can't disagree with you that BMW's configurators are quite unpleasant.

The UJ roof and mirror covers are dealer fit options, not factory fit, so not in the web configurator.
The price is listed in the separate accessories section "Services & Accessories > Acessories > Car Accessories" then click "Start Tinkering". Good luck finding the things you need. However, the prices quoted do not include fitting (about £200 for roof decal) so you'll need to finish your configuration at the dealers.

Shame the Pirate's not in business anymore, the quality of the BMW OEM vinyl was shocking. Started oxidising within 18 months and I had them stripped off after a couple of years.
