05 Cooper - Electric Blue - What decals?

Glad you're (sort of) ok! Could've been really nasty, MINI's are pretty solid though. Would've been a different story in a Saxo or similar! Driving like a tit with friends in the car is not cool.
The car does sound like a write off TBH. People wonder why insurance is so high for under 25s

Cheers, if the barrier hadn't been there I'd most likely have been seriously injured or worse as our trajectory puts me straight into the Oak tree ~6ft behind it. He was pretty worried about this fact and so I got a dinner by way of an apology today despite telling him it's all fine.
A couple of photos from the scene, we returned today, I won't post the photos with the car in situ until the insurance stuff plays out, but we're going to see the car at the yard tomorrow...

Well, car isn't in a good state, that front corner is gone, the front wheel is bent out and right back into the bottom of the passenger door. The door is caved, but opens and closes, it doesn't sit straight though and it's very stiff. The rear quarter panel is gashed and the rear wheel is bent back and in, both alloys have had it, dashboard has come back towards me slightly and my airbag has smashed the windscreen. Looks like there was a bit of a puddle underneath too. Got a few photos, but couldn't get a side on shot as there was a low-loader parked next to it. Waiting for permission to post.
I had exactly the same thought today! You're getting a habit of finding humour in my misfortune, like my 3am vs 7.30am mix-up for Mercedes Sunday Service...
Something we laughed about earlier; my mate has a hugely bent nose from a break years ago, first thing a passer by who stopped said was "Oh my god! You've broken your nose!" - "No no, it's always been like that..."
Car is on its way back to where we live (insurance co's nearest approved repairer apparently), we find out its fate tomorrow...

Did it have the standard run flats fitted ? I've noticed that mine lose their grip (virtually new tyres with loads of tread) very easily on the autumn roads we have at the moment.
Sorry to hear about your friends accident, but as people kept telling me following an accident a few months ago - "that's what we have insurance for". I'm not looking forward to the increased premiums next year though

Yeah, OEM runflats, not sure which, I'll have a look at my photos. It all happened very fast, but I wasn't holding the wheel so I can't comment on what it felt like. Car was supposed to be transported back to our home town to the bodyshop today, but it wasn't, more waiting...Sorry to hear about your friends accident, but as people kept telling me following an accident a few months ago - "that's what we have insurance for". ETA: Goodyear Eagle NCT5s, all fairly new.

It's all been settled now, put up a bit of a fight with the insurance company but they wouldn't offer what he wanted for it which is a shame. However, a potential replacement which matey is very interested in has come down in price and now looks like a very reasonable option. Shame it's 250mi away in Shrewsbury, but as it's a fair bit less than he was expecting to pay, he's prepared to lose some in possibly getting our local-to-uni MINI dealer to bring it down...
Will post it up along with some of the photos of the dead car up later.

Well it's all sorted, so I might as well show you some pictures.
This is what £10,000+ worth of damage to a 2005 MINI Cooper looks like after making sexy time to a crash barrier near Whitstable at 50mph.

Back to the MINI dealer on Monday with my mate to discuss options for replacing it with a rather handsomely spec'd 2006 Chili Red Cooper.

Poor little MINI
It did its job well though in protecting you all... tell your mate to take better care of the next one!
Stirling job it did too. Bruise from the dashboard on my leg is still mighty painful though though rather that than anything else! I'm taking him back to the dealer tomorrow to oversee discussions on its replacement. I've found a nice 06 Cooper in red with the same wheels, white roof and mirrors, half leather, chili, climate, heated seats, chrome line interior and exterior, cockpit chrono, Radio BOOST but minus the alarm. It did its job well though in protecting you all... tell your mate to take better care of the next one!

Oh dear - cockpit chrono - that'd be enough to put me off!MINIs should have a centre speedo
Red one has gone, struggling to find something, Used MINIs don't seem to stick around for long!
Some digging around tonight, I've found the MINI on the Breakers website. So, it was:
Purchased: Canterbury, Kent
Crashed: Whitstable, Kent
Recovered: Aylesham, Kent
Assessed: Haslemere, Surrey (ironically where we live)
Breakers: Sandwich, Kent
WTF, poor bugger's getting shipped about all over the place and they've fked it up even more!

AND It's for sale for salvage for more than Mier was paid out for!!

To be honest, considering his obvious inadequacies behind the wheel (this is twice now isn't it?), if I were you I'd be dissuading him from buying anything as quick as a Cooper. - Do you want to give him another shot at killing you? Try to guide him towards getting some advanced driving tuition - he'll thank you for it later when he can drive a nice car for more than 5 minutes without injuring someone.
