Hi all,

My uncle has a Mini One d with around 30k miles. The gearbox is very notchy and he has been told it's a common problem and the flywheel / clutch need replacing. The cost of which will be £1000.

I would be really interested to here your opinions on the above. Is it a common problem - and what is the going rate for a new clutch etc?

Thanks in advance for any input.

Yes sadly the Diesel models along with the Cooper S and JCW, suffer from premature clutch failings, there is lots and lots of forum threads on this topic, discussing the reason behind the premature failings, and sadly BMW MINI always blame the driver (driver style) for the premature clutch failures, when we who are in the know, know the real reason they fail, but BMW MINI (in this case) still deny logical reasoning technical explanations, that said, there have been a few cases, where a second opinion from an independent engineer, has successfully proved the true fault for the premature clutch failure, rather than BMW MINI blaming the driver (driver style) for error, after all, we don't all have the same driving style do we ? BMW MINI seem to think we do!

The clutch 3 piece kit is about £200 what costs and must be fit with any new clutch, is the DMF (dual mass flywheel) about £400 and the rest is labour.

Thanks very much for your input. It would seem then that the £1000 quoted to do the work is pretty much the going rate for a small independent garage.

Hi I went to a national franchise call Mr Clutch and they quoted me less that £600 for the job in Gateshead. I would shop around. If its is just the clutch then the price wouyld
