My wife collected her Countryman Cooper 1.6 petrol last week.
She is delighted with it.

The Daytime Driving Lights are a mystery.
Has she got DDL or not?

Do the cars come with DDL as standard?
I can't see them on the "Standard Equipment" pages of the "Create your own MINI - Mini Countryman - Price List from September 2011"

It would be easy to see. Start the car and see if there are any lights on at the front (DDL stay on all the time you are driving). DDL has to be put on cars designed after I think about 2009. So it is not the age of you car but when the car was designed. I dont know for the countryman but your dealer should be able to help.

DanGT, thanks for this.
There is little comment on this on the other MINI web forums.
So I reluctantly called the dealer yesterday.
He got back this morning.
At first he didn't have a clue.
He had to consult with _3_ others before getting back to me.
As usual, rubbish.

He says only cars with sat nav and bi-xenon have DDL
I haven't got the price list to hand.
But I guess that means you would have to spend around £2k to get DDL.
Ridiculous.

Even more ridiculous, the "Senior Sales Manager" believes new built cars do not need to have DDL
She thought this would become law in 2013/14!
Someone else on this Forum wrote about the legal requirement.
EU law requires that all new cars built since 7 February 2011, had to have them fitted?

Anyway, I think the DDL are waste of time and energy.
In any case, who in their right mind would pay to have sat nave and bi-xenon just to have them?
We will just drive on dipped beam, if we want to pretend we have DDL. Ha-Ha!

Or fog lights like a lot of drivers do, as they think they look cool, particularly when they dazzle other road users in the wet. Twonks.

I've got an April 2011 build standard Cooper S and it doesn't have them, which I was a little surprised about at the time but am quite happy with as I would have them turned off in any event.

nickfrog & wezo, thanks for that reassurance.
I feel better about it now.
Particularly < ... but am quite happy with as I would have them turned off in any event.>
Quite. We are just going to forget about it and enjoy the car.

I'm just annoyed that I did not spot this when speccing the car.
But I know I would have not got any guidance from MINI sales.
They are even more confused!
I remember trying to get to the bottom of it as long ago as February this year.
The sales and tech person came out and turned the headlights on a new car.
They said they they are ....
But of course they did not exist because the car had minimal spec. Pathetic.

Because of the money you pay, you just think they would be "standard".

Slighty off-topic but relevant I think.
Did you see in the Sunday Times a week ago another trick BMW play?
Someone ordered a 3 Series in March 2011 and specified DAB
They were told recently that the car would be built soon and ready this month, November.
They were also told that they could not have DAB - unless they paid £2500 for sat nav!
The customer declined.
He only wanted DAB, not sat nav.
Interesting isn't it?

DanGT, I've just noticed.

<DDL has to be put on cars designed after I think about 2009.>
After 2009
That's the point, right?

So presumably our Countryman's were _designed_ before 2009

I've learned something here.
But don't tell the MINI dealers!

Thanks.

Luke, ok
Thanks for relieving me of that duty!
These things do take time to track down sometimes.
But it will be on the Times website somewhere.

<And no, I don't work for BMW. >
Phew! Good.

Peter
btw can you tell me how to embed the smiley icon in the text?
Thanks.

DRLS are ONLY required on new MODELS of cars from April 2011 - so even the Baseball Cap Mini doesn't "need" them.

AFAIK all R56/55 MINIs with Xenons have DRLs - at least looking at the on board spec menus comparatively between my car and my mothers (hers doesn't have Xenons).

rfn, thanks for clarifying this.
This is the important point: ..." on new MODELS of cars from April 2011 "
This is the first time I've seen or heard anyone say this.
Thanks.
