I'm slowly getting used to driving my 03 Cooper but one thing I'm not getting used to is the lack of low torque. It replaces a 1.8 Zetec Focus which had plenty of low torque and was easy to drive at 2-3k rpm (drove a lot like a diesel in fact but one you could thrash if you wanted to) and my other car is a supercharged MX5 which has stacks of torque everywhere.

Does chipping it boost the low torque and fill in the torque gaps? I'm not worried about giving it more peak power but better torque would be nice.

On a related note, does chipping it make it any more willing to rev to the limiter? Again, I'm not after more power as such but it would be nice if it was a little freer revving. I'm guessing that as the engine can be supercharged there is no problem giving it a bit of a thrashing...

They are quite good but the gear box need looking after.

You will not see great improvments with chipping. I drive a one (less power) and find the one good thing is the low down torque? Not quick but moves ok. It dose depend on what you compare too.
