Tyre choice for R56 MCS

Evening all.

My MCS is currently on run flat Dunlops, SP1s I think.

Anyway, almost went skidding into a traffic light earlier, so probably a good idea to get some new tyres.

Any suggestions welcome - current thoughts are Hankook V12 Evos.

Assuming you want to ditch the RF...

Toyos T1-R are around £100 fitted but only in the wrong load rating of 88. Similar price to the Hankook but again the V12s will be in 88.

To me the Conti route is the best VFM, they may last longer and should u need to sell the car, they'll send the right message about maintenance...

Does the difference between 88 and 84 matter?

No worries. Just sold the Boxster for a 08 MCS last week and haven't updated my garage yet. I am in the same boat as the RF are not up to the job.

The 88 will have a stiffer sidewall and will therefore slightly absorb the ride benefits from dtiching the RF and might also affect the (much needed) traction benefits. Not a lot in it I suspect though.

Interesting, I went from a 986 S to the MCS and enjoying the change. Quite happy to ditch the RFTs, the ride is choppy to say the least.

I have V12 Evos for my JCW Clubman (currently in the garage as I'm on winter tyres). They are pretty good on wet or dry roads but the ride is rather harsh (not compared to runflats, though). Overall I'd definitely buy them again, the only downside is that they lose most of their wet road grip at 3mm tread depth or so.

Thanks for the recomendation. Think I'm going to plump for the Hankooks.

Fair enough although I had x4 Conti SC3 84V non-RFT (with the BMW approval star) fitted on Friday and they are (unsurprisingly) excellent even with the release agent not totally gone yet.

As I said, the price difference (£18 per tyre) is too small compared to the Toyo/Hancooks to justify not having a "proper" brand of tyres that may last longer and / or send the right message when you sell the car...

I get your point re selling on and originality, but think there's a £100 difference in the end and not in any hurry to sell the car on.

Just had the Hankooks fitted and its a revelation.

The car is completely transformed. It's gripping like a limpet and has lost all the skittishness it was plagued with before.

One very happy customer. And all for £370 fitted.
