Does anyone have such a thing?

Rach recently bought a nice 52 plate Cooper. We went to load the CD changer as we drove away and realised that it wouldn't eject the magazine properly (stupid not to check on the test drive, the first thing I always do is to turn the stereo off so I can listen for rattles and mechanical noises - you live and learn!) Anyway, dealer can't make it work, so rips it out and says he'll have it fixed.

We received a replacement (secondhand) CD changer in the post yesterday and went to fit it today. I found that where the cables had been removed from the old one, it had broken the three-pin "A1" connector which carries power to the unit, and all three wires fell out of the unit. I then couldn't work out which way in they were meant to go, so guessed, wedged them into the broken connector as best I could, plugged in the other six-wire "A2" connector, and turned the ignition on.

The unit has power, because it will accept (and eject, woo!) the magazine, and will cycle through each of the CDs in turn. However, pressing Mode on the head unit does absolutely jack all. So the long and short of my question is; does anyone have a diagram along the lines of "this wire does this" for both of these connectors? Specifically, which wire is responsible for telling the head unit that the CD changer is ready for action - and why is it not doing so?

All help appreciated - I have no desire to take the car back to the dealer, who is a) situated 40 miles away and b) rather a (the car's decent enough but he nearly managed to put us off, such is his unpleasant and overbearing manner).

Cheers in advance.
