Anyone know anything about the New 2014 Mini Diesel Hatchback Recall?

My Cooper D was due at the dealers last week, i was told on Friday it was delayed until next week and this morning told it's on hold until June/July.

I was told weeks ago it was built and awaiting transport so this must be a serious safety issue as the dealer has also been instructed to take the Diesel demo off the road also.

This does ring alarm bells with me, should i cancel as i don't want a 'quick fixed' car that could cause hassle in the future!

This comes from a dealer, imagine it is very annoying. Our petrol order has been delayed too, for no understandable reason.

The dealer offered me the option of changing to a petrol, and they also said Diesel to Petrol order changes would be prioritised over existing petrol orders, not sure if that was the dealer making me think i'm special, but not fair on those guys who get pushed back!

I have ordered a contrasting roof but as i was told my car was awaiting transport i'm guessing it's sat in a car park awaiting the fix :-(

Contrasting roof seems to be the issue with our order, has now been pushed back by ten weeks and from seeing a screen grab of the dealer system, the car won't arrive until July.

This really makes BMW Mini look totally inept. The fact they were not prepared for this when showing vehicles in images with contrasting roof is clearly going to make people order those.

The contrast roof thing seems a bit crazy. How many are ordered **without** contrast roof?

That's what happens when budget ste peugeots engines are used.
The tag line for these minis should be "prestige Germans prices, cheap French build quality"

Is the diesel engine a Peugeot unit? The prince engine N14 in the previous cooper s and jcw models was a joint venture with the froggies (and it is indeed a st powerplant with various issues BMW refuse to admit to at least in this country)

Glad I picked my Petrol Cooper up last week !

I had heard some thing about certain colours with contrasting roofs coursing a problem. But would nto expect such long delays.

As well as a few options running low and pushing back some orders.

First of all this is NOT a recall as there are no customer cars yet. Secondly it is a BMW engine.
There's an issue that was discovered at the last minute and instead of taking a risk and putting the cars out anyway they are re-testing and modifying whatever it is to make sure it's perfect.
No need to panic or start throwing accusations around. It's unfortunate but having driven a few versions of the car it will be worth waiting for.

You would have thought that the issue would have shown up during all of the development testing. This must be highly embarrassing to BMW/Mini.

Respectfully....why would you make that assumption without knowing the cause if the delay?
It's far from ideal extending delivery times to customers but it's also far from a major embarrassment in my opinion.
I'm sure the customers that are affected will be looked after by their dealers in some way. Everyone else needs to chill out : )

The N14 prince engine falling apart at regular intervals didnt embarrass them in the slightest, so doubt a slight delay in releasing cars will.

Mini have admitted what the diesel delay is due to, along with various other delays, from WhatCar 'Mini has confirmed it is to withhold Mini One and Cooper models fitted with the new three-cylinder diesel engine after noises coming from the counterbalance shaft, which offsets vibrations in the engine, were identified in road test cars.'

How is it not an embarrassment...? They are launching a brand new model with engines that are majorly faulty straight away, along with the factory not having the appropriate measures in place to deal with customer options on orders.

I know dealers have absolutely no control over it, but the Germans are supposed to be good at this sort of thing...

Well, if MINI are not embarrassed by this episode, then my mistrust with the brand is being reaffirmed. MINI UK seem to disregard many customer concerns/ issues over the years and it is not really what I would expect from a premium brand. To name a few (I have experienced them all)

1. Airbag lights on first gen.
2. Power steering pumps on first gen.
3. Timing chain issues on R56.

The really frustrating aspect is the approach to customer service in the US compared to UK.

I do like the brand and have a fairly decent relationship with my dealer, but being told 'not to use the back seats so much, as that is the root cause of my airbag light failing continually' by the service manager is a little embarrassing/ arrogant (or not customer focussed).

Not being embarrassed is a reflection on what MINI think of their customers.

Mike where's the official line from BMW about not being embarrassed? Are you mistaking my personal opinion for that of a major global company as you are one service manager in one dealer for the way the same company treats all of its customers?

@andrew fair point, no arguments there assuming that's the truth.

Sorry, mistook a person who represents and works for the company for the company.

Unfortunately for brands, the people who work for them represent them, thus one bad/ stupid comment by a service manager can tarnish the brand for an individual.

Nearly signed a lease on a cooper D from G2L because it was fully maintained for £peanuts. Glad that I didn't now!
