Thanks.
I've just banged in some comparison site quotes as 17 year old, just passed.

02 Cooper £2800
05 KA £1800
59 KA £1600
54 407 HDi136 £2800
04 156 JTS £3100
I put the last two in there to see - surprised at the Alfa and Cooper quotes to be honest!
Does this include having one parent as a named driver? I'm 33 and I still add my old man onto it which knocks off £80 off the premium.

Not surprised the cooper is so much more. A KA is in a group 10, whilst the Cooper is in a group 21, totally different leagues.
I was surprised they were that cheap! Last time I tried some quotes, I was getting approx £2500 for a 1.4 Pug 206, so I was expecting double.

Also goes to show that cars that you wouldn't expect to be viable for a 17 year old aren't that much more, IE 407 and Alfa quotes only 300 or so more than the Mini.

I only tried them as my daughter has driven quite a few of my own cars - she isn't bothered about driving larger cars, and there is the thought that a larger car might be a bit safer.

I've got an 04 Cooper which I use to get me to work and Uni.

I'm 22 had it since I was 20 just eats up the miles. (62k bought on 49k)

Great car fun to drive and decent enough on fuel. The engines are pretty strong as long as it's been looked after there's loads about with 200k + some places.

At 190k I'm sure most of the common problems have been fixed.

I wouldn't bother replacing the runflats just get standard tyres much cheaper and the ride is a lot better.
Ive got Uniroyal Rainsports all around on mine and they're great, just got one of those tyre spray cans incase I get a flat.

Car looks great.

Main issues I see on these are

Gearbox going 'bang'
Power steering failing - they always sound loud though!
Rear wishbone mount bushes

Anyway, looks a good one! Glad MOT went ok

Having done a bit more shopping around, I got a "Black Box" quote for just over 2k when qualified, 613 as a learner, so I am sure your wife got it right.

Cracking little cars.
