Hi all,
I just joined the forum today to get some feedback on dealer discount/margin on 1-2 year old Countryman.

My wife drives a UK-spec 2003 Mini Cooper Auto which she bought new and now has 90k on the clock. Now she wants to get a Countryman but I'm going to suggest she buys a pre-registered or a newish car (>2 y/o, 15k miles etc.). We would like the following spec:

- Auto
- Up to 15k miles
- Budget around £18k
- Chilli pack, sat nav and sunroof
- Preferably in BRG
- Cash buyer (don't want PCP/lease)

What is the likely discount % I should expect from buying a Cherished/Approved Used Mini? Is there any alternative way of getting a better discount (e.g. is there a known/friendly forum member who works for Mini etc.)? Any help will be much appreciated!

Cant say much about discount as not sure.

What Countryman are you after. Cooper. S, SD, All4 ?

I all ways find Chris Lewis at Knights very helpful.

Thanks. I would like a Cooper Diesel Auto (SD would be OTT for my wife, not bothered either way about All4). Called a few dealers around and they do have stock dotted around the country but I'd like say £1k off asking price. Am I being too harsh you think?

It might be a push. But you never know. There only seams to be about 8 Cooper D's in Oxford Green on MINI Cherished so might be worth seeing if there are any other colours she likes.

There has just been a model refresh on the Countrymans so that could help you price wise.

Are dealers easily convinced to throw in extra 1 year extended warranty (as it may not cost them anything (should I not claim)?

Discounts on used cars varies according to many factors, such as the margin in the car, is it already priced well, is it a sought after spec and or colour, how long has the dealer had it etc etc.

You may get a discount, you may not, there is no hard and fast rule.

IMO, I think the Countryman is fat/ugly and I would rather keep the R50 Mini, but having 2 kids makes the current car difficult to live with. Like many housewives, my wife would only drive a Mini and buy Apple products. She's a real sucker for "lifestyle" marketingfrown

I'm in MINI sales. I think finding the right car will be difficult Sir.
You want a green auto Cooper D ,with approximately 5 grand's worth of extras for 18K and a big discount on top?
This is a very long shot.
Respectfully, I think you may have to adjust your expectations or apply a compromise to your spec.
Even if you did find such a car, what are the chances it would be within 100miles of you?

My advice, since you're asking, is to spend a bit more money or (finance some) and negotiate a good deal on a new countryman with the spec you want. There is a model refresh since the first of July with some fresh colours and spec changes.
Give your local dealer a call, I'm sure they'd be happy to put some figures together for you. Good luck.

MINI margins are always tight, you'd be very lucky getting £1,000 off a new car! Today's discounts, tomorrow's depreciation.

You'll probably find that most dealers price their cars very aggressively to get the phones ringing during the week and people in for the weekend. Therefore anything you can squeeze off an asking price is going to be more of a gesture than anything else...
