My 09 Cooper D (40k miles) has an intermittent 'squeaky' tick-over/idle. This is a slightly ticky / bird cheeping type sound, from the belt area at the driver's side of the engine.

Does anyone know what this could be?

It's not a long squeal as such, just repetitive short chirps/squeaks and not very loud but loud enough to hear in the car.

Other times it's just the normal, muted diesel clatter
