Just bought (well the wife has) a brand new Mini Countryman Cooper S with the Sport Pack & Media Pack.

Loving the car & really enjoyed the buying experience so a huge thumbs up but one things concerning me a little & that's the ride quality.

We took out a selection of cars before deciding on this one & all appeared to offer up a fairly supple ride but the one we've bought seems quite crashy over uneven road surfaces. It appears to be more from the rear wheels & really can't work it out as just doesn't seem right for what's basically a family car.

My car is a MY15 F10 M5 & even in Sport Plus mode the suspension feels more forgiving than the Mini. Perhaps being brand new it will take time to bed in but not sure we'll be able to live with such a harsh ride in the family car.

Apart from this the car is epic & a great choice for the Q5 it replaces.

As above, runflat? What size alloys?

I test drove a countryman when they first came out. The ride quality really did put me off (17" alloys with runflats from memory........) So I have a clubman instead.

We'll, if it helps...

My wife's Countryman S is no where as harsh as my R53, both running 17's with RF's.

Thanks.

It is on Runflats & are 18" wheels I think. Car has the Sports Pack which includes a load of JCW stuff (not power uplift) & therefore has the JCW wheels & RF tyres. Can they really make that much of a difference?

I'd expect them to be stiffer than regular tyres but not to have such an impact of ride quality.

Car also has folding mirrors but I can't find anyway to fold them when locking other than the button inside. On my M5 you just hold the lock button on the remote & windows/roof close & mirrors fold. Also, any way to release the boot from inside the car?

Narrowed it down to being the run flats. Now been told the 18" Sport Pack wheels ONLY come with Runflats so i may have an issue with insurance etc. if i go swapping them over. I'll investigate this when the tyres need replacing as not shelling out £800 to replace brand new tyres.

Mirrors can't be folded from the remote (that's really annoying given you can with other BMW's that have folding mirrors) & no Auto Night/Day for the nav screen so i've set it to the traffic info screen which isn't as bright.

Have you spoken to MINI? There may be an ECU program they can change.
