Hi

I have a 2002 Cooper S which I am converting to a track car, I have removed a few items including:
Rear interior panels
Rear seats and seat belts
Rear wiper and boot carpet.

Now the airbag light has come on any ideas why?

Also is it worth getting a OBD reader to turn off the warning light if yes what do you guys recommend?

Many thanks

Mark

Depending on model year options etc my guess is that the rear seat belt buckles have a switch that warns the driver if the rear occupants are belted or not. There should be a check cycle that tests if the switch is working or not. So if you unplug the belt wiring then it should flag a warning light on the dash. Was there a wire harness connector that you disconnected when you removed the belts?

if it is not the buckles the vehicle may also be fitted with pyrotechnic rear retractors, again disconnection wall flag a fault

Hi thank you for the replies however I didn't see any wires connected to the rear seat belts or buckles !

Could it be because I have removed the side panels and the side impact sensors are exposed?

There's no airbag sensors in the back - my guess is its one of the plugs under the front seats, maybe dislodged by accident when the seats have been moved.

A B200 tool will be able to tell you

I agree with this. Our 2001 MINI had this issue three times under warranty.

Service manager eventually told us not to use the back seat so much, otherwise they would not fix again! WTF?? Evidently moving the seat back and forth caused some wires/ connectors to fray!

Hi

Thank you for the front seat suggestion as I have been in and out a lot when removing the seats, belts and interior trim!

Will check this out tomorrow and advise, if it's not obvious I will wait until I have finished my mods as the seats and steering wheel are all being changed so will need airbag delete ressistors.

If you have unplugged anything then the ECU may hold a warning flag that needs resetting.
Not sure where the Side airbag sensors are on a mini but should not be affected by exposed or not

As said above, once lit you will need a B200 or equivalent to turn off the light.

FYI - 3.9 ohm resistors from Maplin, 20p or something, are perfect for the seatbelt tensioners and side airbags. I just cut the plugs off, and soldered the resistors across the wires.
