Morning all,
I have recently brought an 02 Cooper S and it has a profound click from the steering when making any real adjustment to the wheel. I've stripped the cowling away under the column and found the central bearing everyone talks about, greased it up but still no joy.

Apparently this isn't replaceable but I have been told today it's not the actual bit which makes the click, it's the knuckle below this?

I was going to buy a second hand column off eBay and just bung it in but have been told it won't cure it and now I need this bit instead:

Could anyone just shed any light or confirm either way to me?
Would be much appreciated. Will have a crack over Christmas then.

Cheers
Regards
Rj

I had this on a 01 Mini one. It was the bearing but it wont always stop if greased. You can replace just the bearing on its own. It could be the joint below but I would say less lightly.
