hi all,

A few weeks ago, the roof broke on the ol' Mini, in that it would only go back on one side. Cue internet research discoving a common fault with the cables snapping and a fookin' expensive repair in the form of a replacement mechanical kit from BMW.

My garage has installed the new roof mechanism and all was well. However, its only been used a couple of times and intermittently the roof just won't go back or forward any further with the roof button flashing red rapidly mid-way through the procedure. Randomly, it will fix itself after a few goes without touching anything.

I checked the sensor in the boot and that was definately engaged.

Any ideas?? I haven't taken it back to be fixed yet as intermittent issues nutoriously don't occur when I take them in.

Thanks!

Paul.

You need to let them know, in case something not quite right, there may be a fault code somewhere. The motor is in the middle above your head, maybe something not telling the system the front part has gone back enough before the next stage?

Instead of using the overhead roof button, try using the lock/unlock toggle switch on the dashboard. Holding the toggle up in the 'unlock' position should open the roof/windows, and it seems to override the overhead button.

Used to work on mine when for no logical reason the roof wouldn't open.
