Cooper S R56 - blinking red light on top of rev counter?

I just bought a 2007 cooper s and parked it up for the night and locked it up, but ive noticed a red light flashing on the rev counter when i lock the car.
Would i be right in assuming that this light is just to signify that the alarm is armed to any criminals?
It's practically illuminating the front of my house so im worried it's going to attract attention if anything.
