I recently encountered a problem with my 2005 Mini Cooper S (R53).
The story goes like this. I was filling it up with gas and after I filled it up, the old buddy didn't start. I parked it aside and asked someone to help me jump start it to see if that worked because I suspected the battery was the culprit. I hooked up the possitive lead to the battery to the possitive end of the (healthy) battery and the negative of the (healthy) battery to the chassis of my car (ground). Then I waited a bit and tried to start it. It didn't work. Then I decided to connect the two batteries directly, so I connected the negative end that was connected to my chassis and connected it to the negative lead of my battery. I tried to start it that way and it did start. However, after that, all the dash settings seemed to be reset. Time reset, a/c button reset to off, dashboard displayed temperature as opposed to mph (the way I had it before). This is not the problem, as I was able to put everything the way it was.
The problem, I noticed, happened while I was driving it out of the gas station. Before this happened, I was only able to go 18mph on the first gear and it reached 4000 rpm and then I would switch to 2nd gear. After the jump start, I noticed that I was going 26mph before I needed to switch to 2nd gear. It takes almost 3/2 the time to switch to 2nd gear it took before. I don't know why this happened. I hope someone can help me with this issue.
