Anyone else jumped on this?

I have a September build slot but after having a nose around the car at Goodwood I am not so sold on it.

Adjusting the rear suspension looks to be a real pain - wheels off as there is not a nice little knob at the top of the shocks like the front.

It looks nice though...

S
I have one on order. The rear adjustment looks like its at the bottom of the damper so you shouldn't have to take the wheel off. You'll need to get on the floor though and reach underneath.

Thanks, Nitron have confirmed this too.

I was chatting to my mini dealer the other day and getting an update on when mine is due to arrive and he told my mini have only sold 28 of them so far. That was pre goodwood though to be fair. I thought demand for them would have been higher. Was that the only thing that put you off them at goodwood?

The first dealer said there were only 4 build slots left, second said around 50 remained - all before goodwood.

The lack of options put me off a little - I know that is the ethos of it, but a little leather and Nav would not go a miss.

I was hoping it would be a doddle to raise and soften it for the wife to drive during the week and me to drop it and firm it up for track days.

Still it will be fun...

Yea I was thinking the same thing. I really couldn't see how getting the proper sat nav would have hurt. I would also have preferred the red and black seats and maybe a bit more colour in the interior. For the money the kit levels are very mean. Why not add all the extras and tune the engine a bit more? Superchips can get it to 290bhp so I'm sure BMW could safely run it at 250 at least.

Case of damned if you do, damned if you don't. Include the extras to justify the price and people complain about the extra weight. Strip the extras, and people want them. Also, strip out too much and there wouldn't be much room left for a future GP model.

Anyone remember the WC50? It came loaded to the gunnels with every extra; EVO wrote "The World Championship 50 is a special edition, built to commemorate the Mini's 50th birthday. What we wanted was a stripped-out, more focused Mini, ..." So, I guess, with this Challenge model being created in conjunction with EVO, they've avoided the extras.

So look like there are some issues sorting out parts. My car is in the first batch of 15 cars being built and it looks like it won't arrive until September. I'm hoping it's sooner though. Would really like to take it on a track day this year and see what it can do.

Really? That is a bummer. I only ordered in June and was told September delivery.

I have a few track days booked and was looking forward to using it too. Saves me ragging the current car to death. There is a MiniTorque track day at Goodwood in December I think, I may jump on that.

Does anyone have more info on the car? I now understand that adjusting the damping is knob at top of shocks at front and at bottom of shocks at rear. Ride height is a wheels off job and camber is a PITA.

No heated screen too which is probably the only essential option missing in my opinion, although Nav would have been nice.

Scoping out the AC Schnitzer tuning box to take it to 265bhp too. Plus a set of road wheels with PS4s but I am not 100% sure on the wheel size at the mo.

There must be a few more prospective owners on here...

For those put off by lack of spec...

You can get everything aftermarket apart from Nitron Coilovers as they have an agreement with Mini that you can only have them with a Challenge car although KW clubsport will prbably be similar i suspect.. obviously you would lose the full Mini warranty if you modified a std. JCW...

Actually I wouldn't mind that 13 is a lucky number for me!

You can also use Celtic Tuning who offer a 1 year warranty and about 290bhp!!! Costs about £400-ish, which I thought sounds pretty good.

I put my money down on one in April and am getting very little information from my mini dealer. I spoke to the the other day as was told that my car would be arriving in August. To be honest I wouldn't be surprised if that date was moved to September like you two are being told. I really don't think my dealer knows when its coming or anything more about it. I had assumed they were having some sort of issue with it. I was also surprised that there was no mention of it in this months EVO magazine.
I had also looked at getting a superchips remap onto my one. Think its gets you in the region of 285 BHP. I dont know though, im not sure its a good idea to ruin my warranty when the car will be pretty fast in the first instance. Anyone know if MINI would be able to detect these remaps?

A piggy back tuning box may be a better solution if you are concerned about warranty as you can relatively easily remove them...

There are options from TMC, Racechip, JB4 among others which should be good for around 40-50 bhp increase...

A more expensive option would be AC Schnitzer which have a more comprehensive warranty but rated at a conservative 265 bhp

I pulled my deposit yesterday. Still lots of build slots available so it would appear there isn't much demand for this at the moment add to that a possible October delivery and you have the potential to lose a pile of money very quickly. It doesn't make sense to buy a track orientated car in Autumn/Winter so I'll sit and wait and hopefully might grab a bargain in Feb/March.

And this, ladies and gentlemen, is why car manufacturers seldom create the much lusted track day special; lust does not equal purchase. The Renaultsport Mégane R26.R is another example where, despite much attention, the full allocation didn't sell. (HowManyLeft has 105 registered, when Renault UK were allocated 230 of 400.) A salutary reminder for those hoping to pick up a bargain next year; the R26.R is around £20,000, only £3,000 less than list.

Would something like the above have been modded in some way by its present owner to make it represent even more of a bargain?

I notice a lot of the prospective owners of the JCW talk about power upgrading etc.

Not looking to buy one at any price, its a Mini, just interested.

Sounds interesting, the second set of wheels would be a result but the 50 manufactured per year would be a PITA. Saying that the 17" wheels are only about £500 for a second set anyway.

But saying that AutoCar originally reported that Mini were only making 52 cars so I would take it with a large pinch of salt.

Yes, a quick look through the classifieds reveals some very tidy, and improved (power, brakes, etc.) examples for a seven year old car. People willing to buy such a track focussed model are likely to want to improve it.
