You won't be able to do this unless you buy the car after it's been registered as the contract you sign when ordering specifically says that cancelled orders will be offered via the mini network to those who have registered an interest.

Anyone taken delivery of a Challenge yet, or even had a delivery date confirmed?

I thought they were due October, if still not being delivered is there a production issue ?

If you speak to your dealer, they will tell you ;-)

I really do not see dealers admitting to a production issue to someone "off the street ", that is if there is an issue at all. I would hope they would be more forthcoming to customers who had put down deposits, some of whom have commented on this thread previously, hence my question.

Have just put down a deposit myself on a Challenge, but worried about insurance. Car data has apparently not, or has only just been released to Thatcham. Anyway non of insurance companies aware of the car. I am not worried that it won't be possible to insure of course, however I want to use Saga as they are the only insurance company that I am aware of who allow unlimited European travel which is very important to me as I spend alot of time in Spain. Although Saga have insured me on M3s and the like, and would be happy to provide cover on a JCW, I am worried that mainstream insurance companies may not insure a track day special like the Challenge.

Has anyone got any views or insights, or even already obtained insurance cover?

Alan
Are you not a customer then?

You said previously that youd put a deposit down.

My dealer sends regular updates that there is no news. Don't want mine until March anyway so I'm happy that they're delayed.

Im in.

Just paid a deposit on a cancelled order that my local dealer tracked down for me.

Delivery expected 1st march, but still to be confirmed.

PS - good article in current CAR magazine about the challenge edition

Daily driver, have other toys for track work - but might give it a go at some point as would be a shame not to

Some progress but not much, was asked to sign a document last week to confirm agreement with the car being registered in my name, then sent to Mini challenge (total track ltd) who will fit the challenge bits then deliver to my dealer.

Most interesting twist is that I have to pay total track ltd directly for this work and then pay mini for the rest of the car, so effectively absolving mini of any future warranty obligations on the challenge bits.

Still no confirmation on how long this will take, but at least allows mini to release the cars to total track ltd to get things moving.

I questioned the warranty. Whilst the warranty on the track pack is covered by Total Track Ltd your first port of call should you have any issue with the car is your local MINI retailer. They will assess any fault and MINI UK will transport the car down to TTL and back if necessary.

Ive also had written confirmation that the challenge components will have the same 3 year 60k mile warranty as the car itself.

Finally Ive also had confirmation that the warranty covers cars used on track for recreational purposes. If you race it then youre not covered but a jolly to Spa etc is fine.

Interesting, and thanks for clarifying this rather convoluted purchase system. Anyone would think the delay in release was caused by heated legal exchanges. It's almost back to the original John Cooper days, where an Austin Mini was bought and then taken to their garage for the modifications.

Yes Mini UK have really balls this up. I suspect they only realease the initial 50 and call it a day.

The terms also mean the car is registered before going to Total Track, so you may collect your brand spanking new car on March 1st, but it will have a 66 plate on it.

It better live up to my expectations...
