Having a look round and noticed this website does recaps for,the Mini Cooper s and the JCW.

Stage 2 remap below gives 50% gains to the cooper s

https://www.celtictuning.co.uk/services/performanc...

At first I thought this seemed pretty excessive and must require some serious hardware upgrades too. But this gives the same gains as JCW stage 1 remap.

What's people's views on this? Does it seem safe? Is it even realistic?

I'd take that with a massive grain of salt, Celtic's estimates seem to be miles higher than other tuners, so they're either turning everything up to its limit or they're just spouting rubbish.

The 2l turbo only putting out 190hp or so at stock seems low, so I imagine big gains could be had.....

1.6 engine in the MINI, shared with the Pug 208GTI

The new (F56) Mini uses the BMW 2.0 engine that features in a lot of their model range.

Redddraggon makes a good point that it seems low powered for the size etc, but I'm still unsure about Celtics high claims.

Interesting, a mate who recently acquired a 208GTI mentioned it has the same engine as a Mini, i should have known to double check if he meant the latest or older gen model.

Upon a bit of reading up on the B48 BMW engine it seems that it is also available in the 7 series BMW with 254hp/400nm (295ft) more torque than the Celtic Tuning Stage 2 map so the engine clearly has the potential!

If I was planning to keep mine longer than I'm obliged too, I'd definitely be looking at the tuning route, I think with a few hardware upgrades and a well configured map, 300bho shouldn't be out of reach. Might be interesting trying to get that sort of power down though laugh

I might pick up a 'tuning box' yet though, an extra ~30bhp would be nice for a bit more straight line pace, plus I can keep it and sell it on when I get rid of the car..

2.0 engine in the latest mini has huge potential for tuning, as said its used in other BMW models running higher power, manic are currently finalizing their f56 mapping and rumoured figures are easily north of 300bhp .

This.

Running 50% extra power over standard with no supporting mods is not a recipe for reliability.

Reading this:

http://www.motoringfile.com/2015/07/20/bmw-now-has...

It sounds like the engine itself may have been altered slightly rather than just a simple remap change? Perhaps this is why other tuners know the limit to be lower than what celtic seem to think is possible from the B48 engine family

240 bhp in a front wheel drive car would struggle to get the power down

Plenty of people on MiniTorque are running 275bhp(ish) on their Minis no problem smile and I know of a particular person running just over 300bhp... it's worth remembering as well that most Minis (MCS/JCW) come with an LSD.

I have driven one with 275bhp and it struggles on wet tarmac even with a LSD and the tyres die fast
