Bit of a weird one... But after having a look on google appears it's not that uncommon. Turns out new minis don't have as bad a ride quality as I thought....

My mother in law bought a year old Mini one back in 2014, as it was one of the few small cars available with a torque converter based auto gearbox. When they test drove it they thought it was a bit stiff, salesman said it was the "sports suspension and they're all like that".

I've driven it since and been convinced it wasn't right, and my son hates it as its so bumpy. MiL has commented about the suspension when it's been serviced and when it had its first MOT, nobody could find anything wrong.

It finally got to the point where it was about to be sold as the ride was so awful as my father in law couldn't stand it after a recent operation, so MiL gave the BMW garage one last chance to have a look at it. Someone with a bit of sense looked at it and discovered that the transport blocks had been left in the suspension for the last 3 years having never been removed at the original pdi!

in the mean time driving on the transport blocks has wrecked the top mounts and shocks which has made the ride even worse.

The slightly unbelievable result of all this is that BMW are rebuilding the suspension (without the transport blocks!) under goodwill as its justoutof warranty, and MiL won't have to sell her beloved mini :-)

They can't have looked very hard if they missed transport/spring blocks being left in place. rolleyes

Yea that should probably say "nobody could be bothered to find anything wrong".
