What you got and do you like it? The OH is looking to get a Cooper - test drive car was on std suspension and 15" wheels and was fine but ideally wants 17" with non run flats. Would be interested to know if worth looking for a car with variable dampers or whether the sports suspension is a step too far for UK roads. Ta.

Got a new F56 JCW, couple of weeks old, deliberately didn't go for the bigger 18's with R/F's - stuck with the standard 17's (205/45) which came with non-runflat P-Zero's.

Running it on standard sports suspension (JCW though, so not sure how different it is to Cooper set up with sport suspension), no variable dampers - its absolutely fine, really well damped. Had a diesel Audi A4 (2012) with sports suspension on 17's before, and that was a far far harsher, crashier ride. Mini really surprised me, thought it would be the biggest compromise as a daily driver.

F55 Cooper S
17 Inch
Non-run flats
Variable dampers

Find it relatively comfortable. Would recommend that set-up.

F56 Cooper Chilli Auto on 17s and std suspension

Ride is firm, marginally uncomfortable over potholes on our poorly maintained roads and not quite stiff enough on track

Said a few times that we'd go for variable dampers next time as are allegedly 10% softer in Eco and Normal to 10% firmer in Sport mode
