Evening,

Our 2007 Mini Cooper has recently been playing up.

It first started with the low oil warning lamp coming on, but only when turning sharply right, however the oil levels seemed fine.

The engine management light is now on. In the book, it is the eml that has an adverse effect on emissions.

It has now failed to start twice today, and has even cut out when going from reverse to drive. (It is an auto).

It is booked in to the garage on Saturday, but can anyone shed any light? I don't want it to become a guessing game from the garage.

Not sure if this is much help but my JCW threw up the low oil warning on fast, tight right hand bends. Dealer replaced the timing chain tensioner which they said will fix it and the problem has not returned.

I didn't have the bag of spanners noise at start-up though and I guess you don't too?

It sounds like u have virtually no oil in it, they don't have an oil level sensor light but they do have an oil pressure light which if u went round a corner and the small amount of oil left sloshes away from the oil pickup then you will have no oil pressure for a second. I know the dipsticks are hard to read and may not be clear- the dipstick needs to be covered in oil up to max rather than just a smear of oil on one edge.

As above, low oil causes hesitation, eml, and cutting out especially cornering, so treble check the level. They drink oil for fun those Prince engines.

Defo low oil. Mine does it on bends once the oil dips to a lower than norm level and she does drink it like I drink Spiced Rum and Coke.

Will only need a topper, then the silly noise and lack of power on bends will vanish into thin air - like most white and black 1.2 corsa's that usually sit on the wifes arse when she drives...

Did you get any joy with this? I assume, being a 2007, this is a Gen 2?
