My daughter is thinking of trading in her 4 year old 62 reg Cooper, owned from new and with 24k miles on it. Offer seems to be about £3k less than MINI dealers are listing equivalent models on used sales. The offer is bang on the balloon payment when she was hoping for some equity to remain in the car. Does this offer seem reasonable?

I haven't seen a car make over its balloon in 2 years. It just doesn't happen any more that I've seen.
The perimeters you've mentioned are a fair shot at a deal IMO.
There's always room for negotiation on cost of change/monthly payment of course.

Depend how much you've seen them advertised for.

If it's £3k less than competitively priced cars, then they maybe taking the mickey, particularly if it's in really good condition, but if you've looked at ones on the forecourt ambitiously priced at £2k above the guide price, then a trade in offer at £3k less might still have actually been a high offer to make sure it covers the balloon payment.
