Having purchased my wife a new Cooper S 5 door, I am very tempted in ordering a new JCW for myself.

Having not driven one yet (test drive in a couple of weeks) I just wondered what owners think of their cars. Some of initial questions I have:

1. What is the main difference between a cooper s and a JCW. Is the power difference noticeable and how does the handling compare?

2. What are peoples view of the driving position?

3. For me the car sits a bit high. Are there any factory approved springs to drop the height?

Hi, Ive driven every MINI in the range over an extended period of time so feel Im in a good position to comment.

1.) As you know first difference is more power, this achieved via a larger turbocharger along with an ECU remap and a few other things. Power difference is noticeable, top end is higher but also the torque is 236lbs which 30 more than the 'S. The BIG difference for me is the brakes more than the power increase. The stopping power of the 4 pot Brembo brakes is in a different league to the Cooper S. Everytime I drive a Cooper S enthusiastically its the brakes that inevitably let it down in my opinion.

2.) Love the driving position, seat is nice and low. This is the same of all Minis and the driving position will be the same as your wifes MINI.

3.) You can buy adjustable suspention directly from MINI and they'll fit them, if you're buying new then they'll do it with the PDI. They're essentially coilovers and you can really have the car low on these.

Test drove a Challenge 210 as the dealer was out of the full fat JCW.

Still allowed me to gauge how the car drives and I was impressed. The car is certainly set up better than the Cooper S, handling better and having more power. I also found that you sit a lot lower in the car. Maybe thats the seats which allow you to sit lower.

Just have to decide which colour to go for now.
