What do you think about those tyres in terms of ride quality?

I'm thinking of getting a set in 17"
Do you no what they haven’t been too bad and have got better with miles, grip and handling are ok but they do give a harsh ride even hitting a very small pothole feels worse than it actually is ! I would have ditched them sooner but I don’t like throwing money down the drain so I bared with them for 5 years and 17k miles!
But honestly go with a non run flat they are so much cheaper to replace

I'll need to check again to be honest, but seems okay so far.

I can't understand why Mini officially recommends absurd tyre pressures, 44-48psi on the front of a small and relatively light hatchback?! Ride and comfort goes through the floor at these pressures.
Maybe that 2.0 isn't that light or this is for mpg, I don't know but I agree I thought this was a mistake at 42psi front official pressure on 17. I lowered to 38 but I could probably go further...

OK, so I fitted the RFT Dunlop Sport Maxx rotate

I've only driven a few kms to bed them in so far, but in my opinion, they are really pretty good.

I would rate the ride comfort at 8,0/10 maybe even higher.

In comparison, I rated the non RFT Michelin Primacy 3 also at 8,0/10 and the winter RFT Dunlop Winter Contact at 7,5/10.

It's not a direct comparison as I went from the winter tyres straight to the new summer tyres, and the originals are 8 years old, so might have hardened.

Turn-in seems less crisp which adds supporting evidence to the idea that the RFT sidewall has been reduced in stiffness.

Very strange "uncanny valley" feeling at the moment, because I'm expecting much more of an impact as I go over potholes/drain covers etc, but it is really quite good.

Brand new Michelin non RFTs might be even better, but I'm quite happy with the result so far.

Quick update, had the Michelin PS4 215/40 18 fitted a couple of days ago.
Not done many miles but first thing I noticed was the improved ride, handling I haven’t noticed much difference yet over the Dunlop Sportmaxx Runflats 205/40 18 as apart from ride they are a pretty good all round tyre.
Currently running 39/36 psi (cold) to start but may lower the to 37/34 psi as the handling feels a bit floaty . Will take a bit of playing around to find what’s best.
These tyres are only 85y but old tyres I think were 95y? So tyre wall a bit softer I believe? So maybe don’t want to go to low on pressures?

Surely, you would want to put a bit more in to firm the ride up if it is a bit floaty.

When I say floaty is not a good word as the car feels planted but a bit light which tells me too much pressure. I had the alignment done at the same time which had never been done since new.
It is also coming from 18k on the old tyres and later miles poor alignment to something different. But the comfort of the ride is vastly improved.

OK, I see what you mean, I assumed by floaty, you meant a bit soft.

Michelin PS4 vs PS4S - availability of 205/40 R18

I contacted Michelin to see if the PS4S (more performance orientated) would be made available for the standard 18” size.

This was their reply, suggesting they will be produced…

Thank you for contacting Michelin customer service.

The updated stock availability for (CAI: 177805) 205/40 ZR18 (86Y) XL TL PILOT SPORT 4 S MI is: 16/05/2024. (approximate date)

Done 8k on the 215/40 18 PS4 and they have been great (went 215 over 205 as cheaper) so I expect the 205 ps4s to be quiet expensive, not sure if there is any need for them on a mini though?

I am running cheap Handjobs Ventus S3 Evo something and I feel they're good enough for the chassis at least for mere road use. Having said that they are * BMW rated which surprised me (205 45 17).
