I came out to my car on Saturday Morning, to find the rear window in the softop broken. There does not appear to be any reason , i.e no obvious signs of vandalism and no glass inside the car it all fell in the boot or on the drive. After a bit of internet research it appears to be a known fault that they shatter due to changes in inside and outside temperature and is well reported that they can just shatter without warning.

It also reports that BMW know about this however the Mini Dealer told me today that they know nothing of this fault and there will be no contribution form BMW/MIni that it will cost £2275.00 to replace the roof.

Has anybody had this happen and what was the outcome ? it seems a crazy amount of money for a rear window ! Any help suggestions or information would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I posted up here a few days ago that it was a common fault that the windows can blow out but not normally fall out. It is a whole new roof to fix not just a window. Some soft top manufactures will be able to sort it out for you and fix it. If you ring mini head quarters you should be able to get 50% off the price as good will especially if you play your face and say its not fit for purpose.

Have tried talking to BMW Bracknell, to put it mildly they are totally disinterested and very dismissive, I have worked out I buy on average a BMW product (bike or Car) from a BMW dealer on average every 8-10 months. This has left a very sour taste in my mouth, just cancelled purchase of brand new new Mini Cooper S.

THanks for your post.

don't take it up with the dealership you will get nowhere take it up with the mini headquarters I think the number is in the service book. They are normally more willing to help.

Rybrook in Stratford will do you a good price especially if you mention you have seen them on MiniTorque as they are sponsor on there and do look after the mini community well

Just to update, Mini/Bmw Bracknell as I stated before are totally disinterested. I've managed to get a quote from a specialist for a lot less, they are coming to fit a new hood on monday,i'll let you know how I get on.

Update for everyone, I had a brand new hood fitted for my Cooper S convertible for £775.00 that included coming to my place and doing it. The firm that did was called Carhood Warehouse at www.carhood.com and they were excellent, the fitter was a really knowledgable and thorough guy , ver meticulous. So if you have the misfortune to have a problem give them a call.

Any recommendations for roof repair/replacement in Edinburgh please? My soft top roof cable has broken on the passenger side. Been quoted 2-4 grand for repairs.
