Schmee, I'm finding these exchanges very interesting and helpful.
My wife too is very interested in the MINI Countryman Cooper.
Would you be prepared to share with us the broker you use?
If not, maybe you could send me a Personal Message?

The broker I use is http://www.coast2coastcars.co.uk, absolutely brilliant but I did end up getting my local dealership (Park Lane London) to match the price so bought straight from there; afterall they did spare me a few hours for a test drive and spec etc.My wife too is very interested in the MINI Countryman Cooper.

Shmee, excellent.
Thank you very much for sharing that with us.
I've heard of them before.
I'll definitely give them a try.
<afterall they did spare me a few hours for a test drive and spec etc.>
I feel the same way too.
It's only fair.
Somebody somewhere else in this Forum I think, had nothing but praise for the Park Lane dealership.
You would think dealers in the provinces would try harder would't you?
I'd be interested to know how the final part of your transaction with them went.
Depending on what you say, we might take a trip down there ourselves!
Best, pswink

Handover went fantastically; I expected it would but everything was done and the car had a completely full tank.
I'll write up much more in the near future, but for now:
Only thing I'm not happy about is that for my 3rd successive car the dealership have been "out of stock" of iPod cables; how can they not get one in the 2-3 months (5 months on the S5) it takes for the car to be built...

The Ipod lead, is it something special or just an aux lead? Most iPod leads you'll need can be bought off Ebay for a couple of quid.

It's a Y-cable with an iPod dock connector on one end and an Aux and USB on the other end. I was invoiced for it so have already paid (something like £50) so it's a shame to have to buy another one, although I will probably call my salesman now and ask for a refund of the cable and buy a generic one from somewhere if they can't get it for me asap. Even on eBay they cost close to that cost though...
Minor irritation against an otherwise fantastic transaction.

It's no biggy. There's something about a perfect situation that makes one magnify the irritating little things. It's why rock stars throw diva tantrums when the soap in the hotel is the wrong colour. Their world is perfect and the human condition dictates that they must have something to fret about. It's a Y-cable with an iPod dock connector on one end and an Aux and USB on the other end. Very true, and just to add yet further to the experience, on the phone he told me they came in this morning and one's already gone in the post so I should have it tomorrow - absolutely brilliant.Look forward to the photos.
On my MINI feedback form I wrote compliments along the lines of "Service on par with Aston Martin, far exceeding that from previous experiences at BMW and Audi" - and nice to see that continue post point of sale too.

Have to say I initially scoffed at the countryman but since going in to have a laugh at it over the weekend I have discovered that it is a very nice 'little' car and as such have booked a test drive.
Exactly. I parked mine next to my sister's 3 door new shape Ford Fiesta yesterday, (and then Googled the figures) but the Countryman is just 18cm longer and 10cm wider, but the amount of extra space it manages to fit inside it is unbelievable; it truly is bonkers how practical it is while still being a small car - it's only a touch over 4 metres long!Shmee said:

Hey, only a meter longer than the original mini!Shmee said:

Mrs S has a usb stick plugged into the port next to the ipod inlet. Only cost a few pounds and you dont have to put your ipod in the car and forget about it. And all controllable via the steering wheel and stereo buttons.S

I've had this discussion on all threads for all of my last 4 cars that have had iPod connectivity!S
But as discussed before, for me, 1 iPod - easy syncing (update music on a daily basis), can put it in your pocket too, every song always available in the car you're in etc etc. I have plenty of 8GB+ USB sticks lying around but they never do the job as well - and believe me I dislike Apple in general but for cars they have it sorted.

Dumb question from a non techy whose wife has had her Countryman for a couple of weeks. We can't make her iphone work to just play music by plugging the standard lead with a USB you would put in a computer, why is a special lead needed please? Both very please with the car. It's a Y-cable with an iPod dock connector on one end and an Aux and USB on the other end. The standard iPod USB lead supports data control so you can control the device but the car will only receive an audio stream via the aux in cable hence the need for the specific cable for the car.Gassing Station | New MINIs | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
