Schmee, I'm pleased it all went well.
I note they sent you the USB cable by post as quick as the could. Good.
I'm looking forward to your more detailed write-up - don't forget please!
We are having continuing indifferent and poor sales support from the MINI dealers up here (THE North!)
My wife is keen to give MINI Mayfair the chance to quote for her Countryman.
If you think its appropriate, can you let us know the salesperson you dealt with at MINI Mayfair?
Send me a Personal Message if you wish.

Handover went fantastically; I expected it would but everything was done and the car had a completely full tank.
I'll write up much more in the near future, but for now:
Only thing I'm not happy about is that for my 3rd successive car the dealership have been "out of stock" of iPod cables; how can they not get one in the 2-3 months (5 months on the S5) it takes for the car to be built...

It's Mod and Mini night at the Ace cafe this thursday (every 1st thursday of the month). I've been to most of these and they are often quite populated. With the lighter evenings, it should be the first one that I can actually take some proper pics. I'm going to aim to get there for 6:30ish. Some of the chaps form Mini Torque forum tend to go too. This means some 'Works' cars and usually a few '1380 mini' tuned cars. A nice crowd.

pswink, I'll have something written up and post a video review at the weekend I hope but will send you a private message now.
The Ace Cafe event on Thursday looks like a good possibility; Ibosco if you see me there please do say hello! And as per the Petrolhead Nirvana thread, thanks for subscribing too!

The standard iPod USB lead supports data control so you can control the device but the car will only receive an audio stream via the aux in cable hence the need for the specific cable for the car.
Shmee,Thanks, sounds like a money making scam to me.
Nice looking Countryman.

I'll keep my eyes peeled. I'm intrigued to see how the 'media' pack works ;P
I'll be there by 7:30pm. My day has been shifted back by an hour.
After sitting in traffic last night for over an hour to do the 7 mile journey I gave up and turned around I'm afraid. It's weird because for the Monday night Petrolhead Nirvana nights I can get from Westminster to Ace Cafe pretty easily, but last night was just a big grid-lock of going nowhere and at 8pm it wasn't worth continuing.I'll be there by 7:30pm. Well turned up for my test drive today to be told that the car we were booked in (Countryman S) was not available and all they had was a Cooper D!!! Really, you have had 7 days to sort this car for the test drive but you cannot find one despite your dealer principle having the demonstrator...... Anyway went out for a drive in the D and it is the most gutless thing I have driven since my Citroen AX. It handles alright for a big car but the engine is pants. More to the point I was hacked off with the dealer and told him the car was crap and I wouldn't be buying from him as he was obviously an idiot for not sourcing a suitable car despite having a week to do it and our number to call if there was a problem sourcing the car.

No worries. See you tomorrow at PHN. I'm going round the houses on the tube at the moment. My 40min journey is a comfortable 2nd affair. The meeting was pretty good. Packed out, I was out on the street. The next one will be the pre London to Brighton run one. That should have media coverage if it's like last year.
Shmee, The cost of the ipod cable is included in the retail price of the navigation/media pack, so if you've paid the full retail price then I wouldn't think you should have been invoiced for this separately. How much did you get charged for the media pack?
O/T I thought I saw your Aston down at the Ace on Monday?? If it was yours then I love the colour! (I was in the light coloured Tuscan)

Spotted this parked up on my way to work, round the corner from my place (somewhere between pimlico & Kings road).I'll write up much more in the near future, but for now:

Had to take my JCW in today for some work to be done.
'Your courtesy car is out here...'
Arghhh! Bright lemon yellow Cooper Countryman!
Had it all day, and have to say it's ok. Handbrake looks odd but simple to use. Room inside is very good but what surprised me was everytime I tried to park somewhere inconspicuous, people came up asking what it was like. One thought the colour was great.
Drives nicely - just like a normal Cooper MINI really, and not surprised now that a few are hitting the roads.
The person on here who said it was a horrible little car got it wrong... it's a big car.
Should really have reused the Maxi name!
Roll on the JCW Coupe... more my cup of tea.

Now some of you have had your countrymen for a while, how do you rate them, whats the MPG like?
I've done about 4,000 miles in mine and the economy I'm getting (calculated by me rather than the car) is just shy of 30mpg in my Cooper S ALL4. I still very much enjoy driving it but I do think it's more suited to the town than long distances because I find it very fidgety at speed on the motorways.Shmee said:

are you mostly in town to get your 30mpg? Do you think the fidgety ride is wheel tyre related, did you get run flats? have you got the standard 17 inch or bigger?sawman said:

Most of the mileage on my Mini has been cruising on the motorway barely over 70mph, my town economy sits at about 24-25mpg and motorway at around 31-32mpg.I do have runflats and they are horrible, no joke my Aston Martin has a smoother ride than the Mini. With hindsight I would very definitely get rid of them but as is will put up with it until they need replacing. I think mine has 18" alloys which are standard on the Cooper S.
