Most of the mileage on my Mini has been cruising on the motorway barely over 70mph, my town economy sits at about 24-25mpg and motorway at around 31-32mpg.

I do have runflats and they are horrible, no joke my Aston Martin has a smoother ride than the Mini. With hindsight I would very definitely get rid of them but as is will put up with it until they need replacing. I think mine has 18" alloys which are standard on the Cooper S.
cheers! that is useful, i'm likely to be doing a test drive this next week or so....

Mrs Skeeter has a Countryman Cooper D and has done almost 15,000 in the last 11 months. According to the obc it has done 44.6 mpg over those miles.

Not running on runflats, we had non runflats fitted before she picked it up, definately the way to go.

I've read this thread with interest I am a confirmed Mini/MINI Nut I currently own 2 classics which I love but no way oculd I use them everyday so I have a 2.0 TDI Golf which in fairness is a brilliant car but having sat in a Countryman *A Cooper D with Leather etc at The New MINI Show in Liverpool recently) I am seriously tempted by one not sure waether it'll be a cooper D or Cooper SD yet or if it'll bet 2 or 4 wd will see whats about on the used market when the time comes.

Now I know I'm probably going to get a flaming for this but the only thing with the S I don't like is the way the grill comes down the sides of the vent it makes the car look sad

I know exactly what you mean and in a way I sort of agree, but I don't think it's quite as pronounced in person as it looks in pictures because of the depth to the shape too.

While I'm thinking about slight negatives, I wish they had put the iPod plug into the glove box or armrest because it bugs me having to unplug it to hide my iPod every time I get out of the car whereas it would not suffer any significant inconvenience to put it away. Anyway that's pretty small in the grand scheme of things and I believe the way it is on all Minis (?).

Another quirk is that with the armrest, even pushed right to the back, when pulling on the handbrake it comes basically right up to touching the armrest so your fingers hit it (if that makes sense!).

I know what you mean about the arm rest my friends have MINIS and they have comented on it saying when they change they'll try and get one with out the armrest as it gets in the way. I think your right about the Ipod too.

I need to sort out a test drive in both a the cooper d and the sd as I think the cooper d may be a bit to slow as the golf we have has been shipped ao its got about 170bhp

Well that's good news.

It's certainly not the best "drivers car" though, I'm at a motorway service station as I write this mid-way through a 500 mile trip and getting to the Lincolnshire A-roads it certainly started to show some weakness. I do wonder how much is to do with the run-flats and big alloys but I find the steering is too jittery and lacks the ability to properly place the car on the road when going round fast, sweeping bends. The counter-side of this of course is how absolutely brilliant it is to place in town driving which fortunately for me is where the majority of my time in the Countryman is spent as opposed to the A-roads.

However for transporting lots of 'stuff' and grandparents in the back seat, it's done a pretty fantastic job!
