Check the dipstick is going down all the way. If it is keep filling until you get the correct level. Check that there is not oil dripping out the bottom (Oil drin plug come off etc). It may be you just got to the level were the light is not on but below the dipstick? I dont know how minis are set.

Drive the car and start by checking the oile once a day then once a week. If it is using a lot of oile get is checked out.

Only had it 7 weeks,BMW serviced before they released it,so they should have checked it then, but this is the first time i've checked it myself(i know,i know,i'm very naughty)! But just had a look now,and i can clearly see it's level on th DS now, just hope the BF didn't put too much in yesterday!!

If it is over full do drain out via the drine plug in the sump. If over full the oil has a habit of going all over the place and can cause problems and damige. Do check oil use and get BMW to sort out if required (You may not want to tell them how low it got this time).

just keep an eye on it now, make a note of the date and mileage.... If it is going down at a quick rate then I'd get it back to where you bought it from

get them to deal with it

Taking it back to the dealership this aft, still under warranty so they'll check it and fill it back up for me.Apparantly they don't use much oil,so there can't have been that much oil in it when i drove it away.

Well, had it looked at this afternoon, and it turns out that it was well overdue an oil change, the computer says 6,000 miles till next oil service, but the service book says the last oil change was may 2008,so it had gone over the time allowed in between oil changes.Good job i insisted they check it,there was bugger all oil in it,could have wrecked my engine mad.Anyway they did the oil change there and then.

minis within spec are aloud to use up to 1L per 1000 miles so check your oil.

The mini system will allow you to go for years before it asks for an oil change its only based on how the car is driven and how many miles not the period between checks. As some R53 minis do use oil it is wise to check it weekly until you know the consumption of the car. You will find oil in the intercooler and some oil will be burnt off too

mine is a 55 plate r53, it quite often has a top up of 1L. am i right in thinking you take it in 4 a service just when it tells you to. i brought mine in aug 2009 with 37000 miles, its almost on 44000 i think! & roughly in 2000 miles its ready 2 go in. not taken it 4 a service since i had it! is this ok?

Only had the car just under 2 months,so not had it in for a service until today, good job because it it was well overdue an oil change,BMW say it's not due in for inspection 2 for another 2 years or 12 - 15,000 miles.

TBH,every car i've had,i've had it serviced and the oil changed every year regardless of mileage, and will be doing the same with this car.I only do around 8,000 miles a year.
