Just bought a 2006 Cooper S with 20k miles for my girlfriend. Well, it had to be a car that I also like to drive myself. As it was impossible to talk her into a Clio RS Cup, one of the supercharged Minis it had to be.

Oh boy, what a great toy. I really, really love the sharp turn in. The only downside is that the car turns me into a complete hooligan evil (but always sticking to speed limits, officer). I checked the speedo regularly and whilst I can typically muster restraint in my GT3, the Mini screams to take it by the scruff of its neck at all times. Anyone else felt this weired metamorphosis in that car?

We bought a 2006 16k mile one last summer that my Wife uses mostly but when I do drive it it is great fun.
Ours has a LSD which makes it even more fun smile

Watch out for a noisy clutch, ours was replaced this week (now 19.5k miles)but under warranty as it was bought from a Main Dealer.

Completely relate. I too feel the same about ours - its a car we can both drive - Mrs Pork feels comfortable in it, and I dont look a complete tool in it (well, any more than usual).

I was surprised how chuckable it was when I first drove it.....brillaint, I love it to bits.

Novice question, but how do you know if it has LSD?

Original build spec or advert would be the easiest way to tell but if you haven't that you should be able to feel it driving hard out of slow corners in say 2nd gear or on standing starts esp in the wet. The car will really pull round the corner or snake about a lot in a straight line.

An easy way would be in the snow or even wet grass where both wheels should spin at the same time, could get messy on muddy grass though!

I does put up some fight, but I thought that was just a bit of torque steer. Non LSD's - would they just light up a tyre then, presumably?

My OH is looking to get a Mini. Gone from looking for a diesel, to a 1.6 Mini One to a Cooper, but I think a Cooper S might be stretch too far (she currently has a 1.7 TDi Corsa)...shame as they seem terrific cars to drive.

A 07 on one would be easier to get on with if the budget is enough.

My wife picked her Cooper s convertible sidewalk edition up on Friday passed, and then collected me from hospital following back surgery.

The car seems like a lot of fun and she has been smiling all weekend.
It is already nicknamed" Wheezer" (due to supercharger noises )and was initially bought to save money on her daily commute.
Having seen her driving it I think this could be a big ask!
She traded in a Nissan 350z convertible which was only doing 23mpg av.
The mini at the minute is probably 23mpg av.or less!!
This was obviously a well thought out financial transaction on my part.
She says she will drive it normally evetually.
I'm not so sure.
I hope to be able to drive it in about 3 weeks and am looking forward to giving it a bit of welly.

I have also decided that the only car to replace the Sag with will be Cooper s GP,again for sound financial considerations.!

Happy driving all
Davy
