Hi chaps, I am thinking I need to add something small, more suited to town and more economical to the garage so in short getting a used Mini.

I far prefer the look of the JCW aerokitted cars, to me they just look a lot more purposeful and less cute so it boils down to Cooper or Cooper S.

So just how much of a differance is there?

Part of me thinks this is never going to feel fast compared to the Lambo / Caterham / M3 so its more about usability in town so save some cash and get a nice '08 or '09 Cooper.

Other part of me thinks go for a 07 or 08 Cooper S.

Is the ride much different and how do they compare for town / nipping about?
Any must have or forget oprtions?

All advice very gratefully recieved as always.

Don't think the ride is different, I would recommend the cooper S though, the turbo ones will do reasonable MPG but they are a LOT faster than the standard cooper.

I have driven the Cooper, Cooper D and Cooper S. They all handled basically the same but the S was still so much more of a rush due to the power hike.

Get a test drive in the cooper and the cooper S and see what you think, at the end of the day only you know what you are after.

The D for econemy, Dont get the old S as you wont like the fule and harder ride. One and copper are not so diffrent but the S is a lot quicker. The S dose use a bit more fule slightly harder ride and you have to pay more but it would be the car I would go for.

do you want me to help you with your spelling? fule? copper?

anyway back to the point, ive got a mcs 03 plate, 17% pully, its pulling about 220bhp, its very quick but does use abit of fuel, but it depends how you drive it! it gives me a buzz everytime i get in it! i wouldnt get a dead cooper, there have no power what so ever! as for the D, i wouldnt go there either! sounds like uve got abit of money so fuel wont bother you much! like the other reply says, have a drive in one and see what you think, you wont be dissapointed with the S though

That's what I did the other day, went for a spin and ended up buying one, great fun, some cooper s might not have sport suspension which I'm told makes quite a difference, so check for that.

What is the spec?

May I ask your opinions Vs your other cars? Some people carry a strong opinion of the Mini and obviously they have never driven one. I would be interested to hear your thoughts now you have had a drive.

Good decision on the Cooper S Vs Cooper. From a depreciation factor along the resale value of the S will outweigh the additional fuel costs of running a Cooper S Vs a Cooper.

It's a 59 plate car, so the new 182bhp engine, 10k miles, Chilli pack, bluetooth, multi function wheel, chrome mirrors, interior light package, 17" flame wheels, air con, heated seats, rear parking, TLC, black interior with Rooster red side bits on the seats.

Looking forward to picking it up.

Compare to the Lambo / M3 or Caterham it's clearly not as quick, but it's just a totaly different thing, the idea is to complement them and have a garage that has a car for every occasion!

I had a j reg 1.9 205 GTi in Miami blue. I got it when it was 12 months old and loved it.
Got in to a mates Cooper S last year and it was like old times.

I'm buyin this one for my wife, honest wink
My wife tend to use the M3 or X5 depending on what she's doing, I'm buying it purely for ecological reasons, just think how I'm saving the planet by using the Mini rather rather than the Lambo or M3 biggrin

Also, my philosophy as I wold the wife the other day, you can never have too many cars!

Not that it makes much difference but I would double check that it is the newer 184bhp model, We had a Feb 2010 model which was the older engine which ended up being swapped for a March 2010 with the new engine. If I remember the new engine was only put in cars from March 2010 so can only be 10 plate models, its easy enough to check as the newer engine has a different cam cover and on the V5 emissions will be 136gm co2 and not 149gm as in the older engine. I know dealers are very economical with the truth at times so its always good to check the details.

Fair enough, you might well be right.

Tha lady did say it was the new 184 engine but she could easily be wrong I guess.

Clearly I'd prefer the extra 8bhp but I'm not too fussed.

ETA, Just had a brain wave and done an online check on the DVLA website for the reg and you are right, emmissions are 149g so it's the older engine.

You could have left me in blissful ignorance!! biggrin

Picked it up yesterday and I'm loving it!

Great fun and goes more than well enough, can't see it needing any more power.

It's got a few bit on it I didn't remember either like Cruise, voice activation, auto headlights and wipers.

Happy days!!

Thanks, plan to get an updated group pic soon if whe weather stays good and they all coincide as washed at the same time!!

One question, is it possible to swap the date format over?

At the moment it's in mm/dd/yy rather American, I prefer good old British dd/mm/yy

Cruise come from adding the multi-funtction steering wheel (not that expensive of an option for what it includes)

auto headlights and wipers come from chilli pack (i think) and voice activation i dont know smile
