Short term accomodation - emigrating to NL

We are moving to Holland at the end of May, and are looking for short term apartment lets whilst we arrange long term accomodation. Currently we're in the Middle East, and it's not feasible to look for permanent places from here as we need a 'feel' for the districts.
Work and school wise we'll be near the WTC, but short term lets all over are very pricey. I've looked at a couple through airbnb, but does anyone have any other suggestions? Tricky thing is we have 2 housecats relocating with us, and the innoculations for catteries are not all available here so we need to have them with us ideally in the short term let (Rabies to get into the EU is sorted, but cat boarding is stricter).
I appreciate the cat question is probably not answerable here - more to demonstrate the difficulty we face - but any leads on places to try for short term accomodation? Looking for around 6 weeks from the end of May for 3 of us (wife and 4 year old).
Any thoughts?

Of your looking for rentals try www.funda.nl this has both rental and to purchase accommodation allowing you to narrow down by area.
6 weeks is pretty short - I can imagine the majority of places will be looking for 3-6 months minimum. Have you though about a hotel apartment for this period ?
Are you being located by your company ?

I'm finding a few longer term options - funda and Pararius seem pretty good; it's whether we can plan a visit to look in before we arrive. It's a move to a new company, and we are still calculating when work commitments will be finished here in the Middle East to get an exact leaving date, making it tricky to plan a trip to investigate places. It's possible we can't get anything arranged in time from here, hence the short term needs.
Impressions of Oud-Zuid, De Pijp and Oud-West for families seem OK, would you agree? I can see parking being a pain sometimes (lived in London in the past though, so familiar with that).
Tried to PM this, but PH suggests you're not enabled for email message... Like your Lotus, that must be good for the road tax there if I've interpreted it correctly as purely weight based!
