This may be of interest to Mellow Yellow: you mentioned that the bright yellow of your car meant it was recognised as having belonged to Quentin Keynes.

I own a Jensen 541 and one of the senior Jensen Owners' Club members owned a car that was also originally owned by the writer and traveller Quentin Keynes, the great grandson of Charles Darwin, and used by him on his travels abroad for the first nine years. It was similarly lurid, although I don't know whether that was due to Mr Keynes or a subsequent owner; in this case it was bright red, verging on orange. The car was sold a couple of years ago and has since re-emerged in Resale Silver, for a hefty price tag, in France:

Stephen,

Thought the following picture may interest you as it belongs to one of my fathers customers who wanted a re-build done by my dad, which is now nearing completion. I think the guy is the chairman of the London region Jenson Owners Club, he looks after several different types now.

Well thought I would mention a couple of bits on here as a little update! Two Keeble's left my dad's place this last week, one white and one grey which was just having an MOT the weekend. I do recall the next two being booked in and on there way to North London. If the owners of the new ones give permission I will post on here before I deploy to Afghanistan.

Also below is another Terry J Harris looked after fleet of 3 for a customer.

Just so those of you that know we have finally brought Terry Harris into this Century and he now has a website that is under construction but a few cars he maintains are available to view.

Regards Daryl.

Well Chassis 77 is now MOTd and back on the road. A fairly stressful journey back from Terry’s was not helped by gridlock around Willesden and heavy traffic on the M25. But it kept its cool (unlike the driver) and went well on the whole for its first proper journey for 22 years until it ground to a halt about 15 miles from home as the alternator wasn’t charging properly. Given it had also developed a fairly hefty oil leak from the front crank seal I was reasonably OK with taking the low loader home. Now drawing up a snagging list which given the length of time since it was last on the road isn’t too bad (about 6 items). Photos will follow in the next day or two.

WELL DONE ! Ch77 has a 'long and varied history', but being "Back On the Road" is surely the most important! (And) in good time for the G-K 50th...

GK52, you'll soon be checking those Ts & Ps all over again by the look of it!

Sussexkeebler, hope the snagging doesn't pose too many issues, any pic's?

I've just finished chasing a gearbox leak. do they do Tena for classics??

Hi B7trr, yes look forward to it. I went over to France for Easter and got to see the car running and it sounded pretty sweet. Just a case of knocking the jobs off one by one now. For instance need a new ignition warning control relay.... Not sure if I can post a video here, however, I have a short clip of the car running, which feels like a significant milestone.

Hi GK52,
a video would be great,I spoke to the owner of chassis 28 Monday, nice guy and he is coming to the 50th.His car looks great in metallic blue and the wide wheels he has on his gk look just perfect.Did 52 have the wide wheels when you got it?How about you B7trr,were your wheels wide when you bought 81?As I`m keeping the standard st.box would widening the wheels create me lots of problems - any answers from anyone would be great.

Hi Keeble Kid, chassis 52 has the original 'skinny' tyres. Looks very different from 75 with the wider wheels. Cannot help with conversion tips as 75 was adapted before I bought it.

KeebleKid, CH81 has standard wheels and I don't think they have ever been changes to a larger size, all I did was have them refurbished but I would add if anyone is going to get theirs powder coated get them to mask the hub centers as the tolerance is quite fine (I thought I had c***ed up when refitting the hubs as the wheels were all over the place and it turned out they were not seating properly due to the coating thickness) also, when they are balanced stay clear of the calipers with the weights, once again the tolerance is fine and the get ripped off easily!

Mellow, your quiet.....

Thanks for the Jensen picture, Daryl. I know the previous owner who spent many years restoring it only to fall at the last hurdle and sell it recently. The interior has certainly changed - it used to have white leather seats (very Hollywood) and a black vynide dash instead of the current woodgrain. Hopefully it should be on the road for the 541's 60th birthday party at Stratford at the start of August!

Yeah, not much to report at the moment, have spent the week nagging various parties to get their act together. Hopefully able to report some progress soon.

Some pictures as promised, snagging going quite well - oil leak fixed, reluctance to draw fuel from nearside tank fixed in the traditional maner (gave the reluctant SU pump a wallop with a hammer) left with erratic charging from alternator, soft brakes and a loss of fluid from the rear resevoir, noisy rev counter and a speedo reading to high (which is just a question of working out how many more cogs I need on the drive gear).

Looks fantastic SussexKeebler!

With respect to your brakes/brake fluid- you might want to check that you aren't losing fluid into the vacuum chamber on one of the brake servos. Less frightening to find this out before you lose a brake circuit, and usually an easy fix by rekitting your servo.

Hi sussexkeebler ,as GK52 said it could be leaking past a seal into a servo, check for a white smoke from the exhaust as this is a sure sign of fluid leak in servo's.I think my friend who used to own gk72 sent me some pics of your car when you were doing the rest,it's turned out lovely. What bumpers are on your GK?I have triumph 2000/2500 on 97 but these look different to mine.

Thanks for the comments. The servo is pretty high up on my list of suspects as it was rekitted a good few years ago now - one of the problems of a long drawn out resto - but had been looking for white smoke but not seen any. On the other hand not seen any pools of brake fluid either and its going somewhere...

The colour is an 80s Rover colour called hurricane grey - it seemed wasted on a Montego.
The bumpers are a mystery to me. I know they are not triumph but not sure what they are off.

Hope you get the brake issue resolved without too much trouble.

Have you changed to 12V on the electrics?

Well spotted B7trr, 77 is indeed an auto. It had been converted previously using a TH350 box and I decided to keep it that way. I did think about using a 4 speed TH700r4 but decided against it as too many things to alter. Electrics had allready been changed to 12v negative earth.
