Evening all.
My Father-in-Law is moving back to Sicily having lived in the UK for the past 30 plus years.
He'd been having some health issues for some time and fell ill whilst visiting family in Rome, had to have a pacemaker fitted and now he's decided to go home and sit on the beach, permanently.
I'm not entirely sure if he'll be moving back into the family home or buying his own place once he's sold his UK house, although if I gaze into my crystal ball I can see a euro road trip in a Transit without aircon featuring in my immediate future!

I was wondering was if anyone has any good links offering advice on moving to Italy, who you have to inform, what the deal is with healthcare, that sort of thing....

Cheers
Dave

Hi,

sorry for the late reply.
I assume he still has his Italian passport/Identity card, provided he still holds Italian citizenship.
If that's the case all he'll have to do is to notify the local council through the Anagrafe office of his new residence (by selling the place in the UK and declaring to move abroad will also relinquish the registration here). For the healthcare, once he's registered in the Anagrafe office he can go to the local USL office (similar to NHS) and ask to be assigned to a GP. After a few weeks he'll receive the new documents and the registration card to the SSN (NHS service). Should he require any operation or assistance in the meantime, no worries since being an EU citizen, healthcare is free of charge.

Hope it helps,
