There was a TVR Chimera (I think) sitting on the hatched area by Spinney Hill Tesco at the traffic lights. A police car shielding it and a lot of fluid under the car.
Hope it wasn't fatal, whoever you are...
That was me - unfortunately that was oil pouring out of a hole in the block! I wandered back down the road and picked up amongst pieces of block casing a pushrod... I'm no mechanic but I'm pretty sure they shouldn't be coming out :/Hope it wasn't fatal, whoever you are...
The car certainly turned even more heads than when it was working!
Looks like I'll be laying up early for the winter
I think I remember seeing the blue MR2 if that was you? I was the chap in the red jacket and the long face at the side of the road!

Hi sorry to hear that about your chimaera, what are your plans with it now? I miss mine terribly and feel tempted to buy one again but then story's like this make me hesitate slightly! I use to have the dark blue chimaera with the private plate! The car certainly turned even more heads than when it was working!

Stumbled accross the TVR meet at Sywell on Sunday!
Fab to see the amazing Lola too, shame you didn't fire it up before we had to leave. Hope to see me of it around the area!
What Lola was that? We used to have a converted road-going 1981 T590 Sports 2000 during about 1990 - 2008. This was it. After we sold it, somebody painted it in Gulf Oil colours, which really didn't suit it.Fab to see the amazing Lola too, shame you didn't fire it up before we had to leave. Oh a replica then.
Occasionally my mum used to pick my Dad up after work from Market Harborough station in the T590 above. I even remember him spinning it one Boxing Day morning on some black ice on the road to Uppingham. We also did a few laps of Donington in it for a Lola celebration. My Dad drove it there and back on the M1 too.

Could well be the same car then. It would be nice to think that it's back in this area. I'll look out for it. Can you post up a photo?
Ours was the only one that had been converted to road use back in the late 1980s. I don't think this was as difficult as it sounds: just raise the suspension a little, add on lights & indicators front and rear, a horn and a rudimentary exhaust silencer box, as well as a bench seat for two (with harnesses). For added torque for road use, ours also had a 2.2 litre engine on 2 x twin Weber 45s.
It was just an obsolete racing car back then, which had taken part in the Dutch Sports 2000 series in about 1981/1982, prior to being repatriated and converted to road use.
An historic Sports 2000 race series was created about 10 years ago or so. This raised the profile of these cars. One of the founders checked ours out but reckoned it would need too much investment to make competitive, so it stayed as a road car. Due to the success of the historic race series, I doubt anyone converted one to a road car again.

I certainly miss mine already, as my new steed is a brutal 1.0 1998 Nissan Micra! I;m not really sure what I'm going to do with the TVR yet, but as I see it the options are:• Break for parts (not that there are very many parts to break!)
• Sell as-is with no engine (can see getting much for it)
• Try and hold out for a cheapish relacement engine on ebay or something
• Buy a cheeky 4.6 fast road engine from V8D
• Do a full body-off restoration, re-con the diff and gearbox at the same time
The trouble with the last three options is that there is no way I'll have the money for a new lump in the next six months, and I really don't have the space and dedication for a full body-off!
So to put a long story short, I don't really know yet!
I wouldn't worry too much about stuff like this happening if you get another one though - I don't think spectacular failures like this on an RV8 are very common!
