Probably not the cleverest place to criticise other drivers.
Family and I had a great time and must congratulate the other drivers in our section for their intelligent and safe motoring. Thanks DH.
Anyone know the history of the GT40? We followed it outbound and it sounded primeval. Also spat the odd flame.
I agree with you about driving standards. I was behind you, at the tail end of the group. On the return journey I followed the Integrale. In both cases, I saw nothing to complain about. Family and I had a great time and must congratulate the other drivers in our section for their intelligent and safe motoring. Thanks DH.

I'd like to thank Dove House for their hospitality, and everyone who attended for making it an enjoyable Sunday.

What a great day and some amazing automotive porn...didn't go for much of a run but the sound of the AMG Merc estate really put our 17 year old R in the shade!!!thanks all!
Sorry that was me with my childish overtake, the noise is quite addictive. We were admiring your Volvo which looked in mint condition.nta16 said:
welllllll, maybe not quite
I wasn't there when the copper arrived first time so can't speak of it
and I'm not taking sides just saying what happened that I know as I was there when he called by in the afternoon, as I was standing next to the member of Dove House staff when the copper arrived I got the full gist of why he'd been called out first time
having spoken with him then, and later, to me he seemed very jovial and not in the least likely to act out anything from an unreal TV police drama
it was probably my suggestion (might not have been, I can't remember as it wasn't anything noteworthy) that he grab himself a burger and do a bit of community relations or whatever they call it now (it used to be called talking to people)
the copper is allowed a break to eat food so why not mix it in with the community relations (or whatever they call it now) whilst he has the chance as I'm sure many time it's missed or interrupted as it could have been on this occasion
BlimeyCharley - I'm really sorry that you got attacked and can understand how you feel and I think it's really bad that the Police didn't respond to it but in the same way you can't blame the next drunken person you see for that attack neither can you blame the copper today
I'm not dismissing what happened to you just giving context in relation to today
Thanks for saying what you've said, and my 'problem' the day I'd forgotten about, it was just the 'seriousness' of the Lawman turning up and the way he conducted himself.I wasn't there when the copper arrived first time so can't speak of it

As I saw it, and still do, if there is a problem with cars parking on the road, then deal with it in the correct manner, and as far as I could see no offence had taken place. Just like a 'normal' weekday with cars parked along the road.
Bit like when I drive onto any industrial estate in the land, and there are columns of HGV's parked on the road. You just deal with it, don't you, by using the steering wheel. I don't call the police.
Lawman just steamrollered his way in (on private property) and started telling Dove House 'what for'. Then when Dove House folks politely put their point across Lawman accused them of being argumentative and difficult.
I just cringed at how he 'dealt' with the situation, and felt really sorry for the Dove House people who tried to speak to him.
I'm being silly here now, but next time I visit Dove House and I have to move my steering wheel to negotiate a parked Morrisons HGV, I will expect the Police to turn up in great haste, parking their van in the middle of Morrisons yard and then start arguing with Morrisons staff about lorries being parked on the road.
Many a true word said in jest.
Great day though, thanks again Dove House.
My thought for the day is-if an of the lovely cars been stolen on the day, would the police have made such a fuss?
Playing devils advocate for a moment, it wasn't really just cars parked on the side of the road though was it?!
They had all parked on a 45 degree angle to the curb (some nearer 90 degrees), so pretty much blocked one lane completely, then for some reason half way down near the Morisons entrance had swapped to the other side and done the same.
This created quite a tight chicane for the artics to get through.
I'm pretty sure the drivers wouldn't of wanted to hit a car especially seeing how expensive most of them were!
Can you imagine the uproar from drivers if their cars had of been hit?
If people had of parallel parked normally next to the curb it wouldn't of been half as big an issue for the trucks to get past

Good pics. His pick of the day was the GT40 replica, we had to wait at Sywell to see it leave, and he loved the way it popped and banged on the over-run
Of course I am now confused, I was planning to build an Ultima in a couple of years...but now Gt40 and Lola T70 replicas are swirling around...
It was a good meet and i really enjoyed it, thanks to the people at Dove House for showing such great hospitality, putting on such a great event and even putting on food
Just to mention on the parking side, we were all directed to park on the road at the angle we were by DH staff - it seemed perfectly reasonable and sensible to me and there was a very clear path through the center easily wide enough for 2 cars to pass. When the fuzz turned up i initially thought it was because they'd probably already been made aware of the event, rather than coming to bk us.
The officer had a little chat with a few of us whilst we were stood by the road with our cars - it was very much a "move your cars now, you're blocking the road". No point in arguing, so we did, but it felt rather heavy-handed and OTT given the road was so wide, we weren't blocking the road at all, there were no double-yellows, we hadn't blocked any junctions, and to put this into context, it was in the middle of Sunday morning at the end of a business park. It was dead, besides us lot being there. I didn't see a single HGV or even a van trying to navigate around us.

last word on this from me - I don't know, as I said because I didn't see the copper in the morning, but perhaps the copper I saw and spoke with in the afternoon was a different copper to the morning one or he has a Jekyll and Hyde character because if the one I spoke with was out of uniform I didn't think you'd guess his job was as a copper
from what I heard there's a long ongoing situation with complaints of lorries visiting Morrisons normally blocking the road so perhaps this bad neighbour jumped on the one time they could put in a similar complaint
back to the day
the GT40 was good for me as in the engine bay I could actually recognise most of the components
as put earlier he told me he was in Woking the day before and he'd done 30k-miles in the car and more things but sorry I've forgotten the details
we had a great run with a pack of Porsches (Porschi?) to Sywell and fell in behind a mixed group on the return journey, great to see one fly, safely and so easily, past me and the 4x4 I was behind, fabulous instant burst of power

I know you were playing Devil's Violin, but we can have lorries parked on both sides of any industrial estate in the land, with one lane in the middle to get through, but not cars? If the cars are taxed, MOT'd insured etc then no offence has taken place. NO yellow lines or restrictions present. The lorries (what, 2 of them?) could get by easily and there was no problem, unless you are a Morrison's security guard with nothing better to do.
No need for the Police to make such a fuss. Or to call them in the first place.
I also heard a point being made politely (to Lawman) that lorries use Dove House's property to turn round on, which does not result in the Police being called.
Is it too difficult for someone from Morrison's to ring Dove House and explain the issue instead of calling the Police?
Lorry drivers are a good lot from experience, and they were probably being decent about it, but I actually thought the Police and the manner of which he (Lawman) went about his business was a prank to start with, or some sort of staged joke.
He enjoyed his burger later in the day, and that burger would have given him a much-needed energy boost when he came to tackle his next serious incident.

I'm only basing my view on what I saw, and that was an artic struggling to get through the slalom caused in the middle of it all. I drive them at work, so am fully aware of how easy/hard it is to do.
Someone said it was easy to get 2 cars/trucks past, but as you can see from my pics that was simply not possible at all!
Maybe it wasn't like that all day, but it was at some point at least, and maybe that is why the police were called?
I agree truck drivers are a decent bunch, but some are also the biggest moaning bds on the planet, and you can bet one of them turned up yesterday and started whining to someone at Morisons about it all!
Just to add, it didn't bother me at all, I'm just trying to show it from their point of view
