Thanks to everyone who attended yesterday, we felt it was a very successful day, and we are glad the run and barbeque were enjoyed by all.

Just to clarify, the Police were called by Morrisons, who had some lorry drivers object to the cars parked on the road. You may have noticed a lack of lorries stationary on our approach road, as they were not blocked. A total of 6 lorries drove past during the day, and were able to drive into Morrisons unhindered.

The 'slalom' as mentioned by a previous poster was deliberately put in place, to encourage people to slow right down on the approach to Dove House, bearing in mind the large number of people in attendance. People leaving the event towards the end may have seen and heard cars leaving Dove House in a more enthusiastic manner as the road was almost completely clear.

We are not professional event organisers, and have to work with the space and facilities we have, to try and make the day run as smoothly as possible. If any PH'ers have any better suggestions for next time, by all means contact Dove House staff, as your contribution would be welcome.

Regarding the parking I heard DH staff saying that the cul-de-sac is sometimes so snarled up with Morrisons lorries on a work day that DH customers can't even get on to the trading estate and have to park right down the other end and walk up to DH.

As for the Morrisons jobsworth in his high viz waistcoat and hard hat (laugh) I politely told him myself when he appeared out of his sentry box that the gathering was only going to be temporary and that we'd all being moving off shortly. I think he was itching to get on the phone to the police, rather than walk another 50 yards to DH and talk to them about it. He reappeared later sheepishly taking photos on his camera-phone when the police van arrived, presumably pleased with his Sunday morning's work. I didn't even see him talk to the policeman himself. No doubt he's written a report with photos showing how he saved Morrisons from logistics meltdown and e-mailed it to his superiors, if only to show what a petty, small-minded g!t he is.

I have never shopped at Morrisons. Local folk have to put up with their endless distribution centre lorries holding up traffic 7 days a week on all routes in/out of Rushden, yet Rushden itself doesn't even have a Morrisons store to shop in. Maybe a temporary boycott would be in order for those that do shop at Morrisons?

I'm a DH customer and on many visits I've had to drive on the wrong side of the road around the traffic island in order to negotiate the parked-up artics, and also reverse back through a single-width channel between artics to allow one to leave.

Perhaps DH could talk to the Police about obtaining a temporary road closure for future events of that size, or just limit the numbers attending "on site".

Massive thanks to Dove House for being impeccable hosts!

Huge thanks to all who attended!

Whole morning was simply superb, despite Blipi developing a wobbly wheel and having to attend in a substitute!

Enjoyed the first run up to airfield (Missed second part as had to get home afterwards unfortunately).

Never done a run (or meet) before, but am looking forward to another one!

I'm only basing my view on what I saw, and that was an artic struggling to get through the slalom caused in the middle of it all.
I drive them at work, so am fully aware of how easy/hard it is to do.
Someone said it was easy to get 2 cars/trucks past, but as you can see from my pics that was simply not possible at all!
Maybe it wasn't like that all day, but it was at some point at least, and maybe that is why the police were called?
I agree truck drivers are a decent bunch, but some are also the biggest moaning bds on the planet, and you can bet one of them turned up yesterday and started whining to someone at Morisons about it all!

Just to add, it didn't bother me at all, I'm just trying to show it from their point of view
As I said previously, every day when I drive anywhere I have to negotiate parked lorries, vans and cars.
That is why I'm not fat, because of the upper-body workout I do behind the wheel.

I'd like to appeal for witnesses to come forward with photographic evidence of Morrison's trucks being prevented from getting their cargo in/out shake it all about at Rushden.

No crime, no need to call the Police.
End of story.

We do not live in China, do we?

Thanks again Dove House, nice day but maybe next time promote your event on Mumsnet, where parking and driving standards can again be discussed.

sorry the meetings were all a bit rushed, good job Morrisons weren't at Sywell with my bit of bad parking

good chap you've got there, I could do with one like that (for the car of course) I didn't hear the full story of what prevented your car from being there so please apologise to him for that
