Sorry all!

Matt, though I had answered but maybe not...

She runs but as no oil is getting through she shouldn't really run for longer than testing time necessary.

There is a completley nuts Elan in Greece owned by a guy called Costas. He's got his to over 300bhp and off the end of his speedo. I have vid clips to prove this somewhere. I had a ride in it when he came over for the Lotus Show in Donington in March.

I could take Blipi further, she's already on around 200bhp but I don't think she should take much more power as things will wear quicker. I can make her LOUD as well as pop and bang like a trooper. But instead I decided to get the Tiv!

It would seem a shame to completely shatter my Chimarea dreams and sell her straight away but money may force her early sale. I'd hope to keep her a while and see whether she proves herself worthy of my care or not. I was only around 15 when they came out and I wanted one. I achieved the dream of ownership but perhaps not all the pleasures I associated with one! Blipi on the other hand has just grown deeper and deeper into my affection!

Watch this space all...

She's with a remarkable man, a true motorsport nut with fantastic skills.

He comes highly recommended and from meeting him I trust him.

Don't think he has a garage as such. Has raced and done work for teams but I don't actually know who he is. Tivi was dropped off at his house where he naturally has tinkering facilities! It's in the middle of no-where.

Sadly that is all I can say! rolleyes

Hello everybody! Got back to Chester about an hour ago...775miles, 36hours and more rain than I can shake a very wet stick at.

The car is with Richard who built the engine for my Chim racer. He lives and breathes cars, works for one of the F.Renault round Loughborough and occasionally an F3 team. I've every faith he can get to the source of the problem.

The journey was a hoot, cheers Steph, just run the logic past me one more time hills always going down on the way back from Scotland...and remind me not to drive round service stations at 3am with sunglasses on.

Regards
Iain

Well it runs something like this...

...there's lots of lovely scenery next to the M6 around the Lake District and the Borders, why not install a network of floodlights say 1/4mile in the air to flood light all the rolling hills and everything so that weary travellers crawling up the motorway in the dark, as we were on Saturday, can admire the scenery. Only problem is the local wildlife may not take too kindly to it, hence the image of angry Scottish squirrels throwing nuts at us all, complaining that they can't sleep.

And thanks for letting me know you saw the glowing flashing traffic cones floating in the air, I did begin questioning my senses for a moment.

Don't worry folks, we're both perfectly sane now!

Iain

I believe that this is a fairly common problem after a rebuild, there could be two causes.
The oil pump is driven off the bottom of the distributor shaft; if either the oil pump or the distributor has been removed during the rebuild then it could be that drive has not engaged when it was rebuilt, the drive is a simple slot arrangement.

Most likely cause is that the pump is dry, this occurs if the oil filter is left off for any length of time or if the pump has been worked on, the oil drains down and leaves just air in the pump it can not then suck the oil from the sump. To get the oil to flow you must remove the plate on the bottom of the oil pump, this is usually held on with Torx type screws, being careful not to loose the two pump gears (they tend to want to fall out once the plate is removed) then pack as much Vaseline into the pump as possible (it must be Vaseline not grease!!!!), replace the bottom plate and gasket. The Vaseline gives the pump the ability to suck the oil from the sump, start up and you should find that the oil pressure rises up within the first few seconds of running.

Can’t guarantee that this will work for you but certainly worked on my V8S with a Rover V8 and is the “Steve Heath Bible” recommended way of priming the pump.

Good luck

Seeing as it's a serpentine engine, the oil pump isn't dizzy driven, and if it were you wouldn't get a drive to the dizzy if the oil pump wasn't engaged; as the dizzy would miss the gear on the cam and you wouldnt be able to clamp the dizzy down either.

Every conceivable method of priming the pump has been tried. It's something more fundamental that just a dry pump.

where is the oil pressure taken from on those rover V8's?

Gauge pressure is on the underside of the timing chest, directly by the outlet from the pump. Warning light switch is on the feed up the timing chest to the main gallery.

am i right in thinking that there is a slot up the side of the outer(static) dizzy shaft which is part of the main oil feed, if its assembled wrongly it can restrict oil flow?
tell me if im teaching grannys to suck eggs?
