Yip, all in the mind.

Ran the 10k with a chest full of catarrh.

It's mostly gone, will have a crack at my PR this week...won't be too fussed for a great time, but it won't be a pootle either.

Took the dog this morning and together we did 25:01. Would have been quicker if he hadn't needed a dump half way round too irked

Home event was cancelled this morning, so me and some friends got some tourism in and visited Arrow Valley instead. Lovely country park setting consisting of 2 laps on very well paved paths.

Felt really sharp off the line and found myself with the lead group for most of the first lap before drifting backwards a touch. Fortuitously for me, the guys in first and second place were like me and visiting when they were sent down the wrong path by a marshal! Began picking a few runners off ahead of me and crossed the line for 3rd place without realising it for a decent morning's work.

I was touring this weekend due to car club AGM so ran Oxford. Nice course, mostly off road but quite flat and I managed sub 24 for the first time since January due to run directing, injury and a hilly home event, so pleased with that.

Also my 20th different event so now on the Most Events list.

I know this is very much a personal thing based on loads of factors. But after no fitness stuff at all for 4 years (due to a dicky heart, all clear now, although I was never fit before that anyhow) I went along to Parkrun and ran a 34:11. I note the average is 27:39 so I've decided that's my long term target.

If you're doing exercise 3 times per week (including Parkrun), what's a vaguely viable target in terms of number of weeks to hit 27:39, or the best part of 7 minutes trimmed from my initial time?
Quoting myself, but week 6 today...

34:11
31:17
31:00
29:19
28:19
27:06

So I've already demolished my original 30 minute target and the 27:39 average course target, I was originally aiming for sub 30 by Christmas! I guess 25 minutes has to be the next big long term aim, definitely had more in the tank today but started so far back it took me 3 minutes to catch the 33 minute pacer (the start of the course is quite narrow so the field spread is huge initially)

That's great going!. How many run in your parkrun?

I was nervous of starting up at the front originally, but it helps massively as you have less people to dodge round

I always start on the line so my GPS is in sync with the run clock. If you feel like you are going to get run over by the people behind then start on the side as the quicker people will then run past you with no issue.

Visiting the in-laws this weekend in south Wales and whilst the original plan was to either visit my home away from home events of Cardiff or Newport, I've just found out the inaugural Cwmbran event kicks off tomorrow and is only 10 minutes down the road!

Looks a good route, with a simple flat-ish out and back on mostly paved paths.

That does look a good one. The return is round a lake rather than a sharp u-turn so you can keep the momentum going.

By the time you are on your way back the vast majority of the field will be going round the lake so the narrower parts near the start wont be an issue.

8 runs in and I took another 40s off of my best time this morning, now down to 23.55. Especially pleased that I managed to run a consistent pace until the end without tailing off.

Really enjoying running at the moment smile

Visited Queen Elizabeth Country Park today. Km split times 4:50, 5:44, 7:24, 4:45, 5:44. It was a bit hilly :-D

Quite enjoyed Cwmbran's inaugural event. Very flat route, though elevation chart from my Garmin's altimeter suggests otherwise. Middle of the out and back took place on grass for some slow down, but otherwise a nippy course with the right conditions and fellow runners to work with. Finished 7th out of 233 with 18:48.

Missed Orpington parkrun yesterday as I was marathon running/beer drinking in Belgium but Kelly Holmes turned up - only came second mind you

I am doing very steady 30 minute Parkruns until my dodgy knee gets better. I tend to start mid-rear pack and overtake a few on my way around. Every week there is the same... larger lady starting right at the front of the pack blocking the narrow path as everyone queues to get around her. If she's going to run about 40 minutes, why doesn't she start nearer the back?

Not suggesting that's you by the way KTF!

Some people just don't realise or are in their own world. It's a brave person who points out the obvious to them as they tend to get the hump and complain about it frown Having someone like that get in the way each week would be proper annoying but it's a balance between being inclusive to all v applying common sense.

It's not me getting in the way though as I had a 'bad' parkrun yesterday at 20:07 / 16 position. Legs were feeling it after endure 24 last weekend frown

Maybe she wants to break her time every week? A person who is 40 mins has the same 'right' to start next to a person who is after 16 mins.
Whinging about this is the sort of thing I thought parkracerun was meant to be the opposite of?

Absolute rubbish
Briefing clearly states for the slower people to go to the back
Especially on one of the runs I do which is narrow in places.

Slow people aren't allowed to go for time?

edit to add

I have tried to look for guiddelines.
If you could point me in the right direction I did find this.

"Whilst more competitive people can use parkruns to test themselves against their own time, and against others, participation should ultimately be for fun.
Please remember we're just here to provide a free, friendly way for anyone to run 5km on a Saturday morning. You can run, jog or walk the course."

No, that's NOT what I said.
Our briefing asks for the slower people to go to the back. This does not mean they do not get a time as the time begins from the line.

Barcodes are not chips, the time starts from when the whistles goes, people who want to get a PB will start on the line, that means slow and fast alike. So by saying slow are sent to the back, you DID say that.

Can you show me your briefing please? I looked on thew website. smile
