There have only been two new ones since I started logging them. Once I'm up to date with them all I will just do new ones as they start. smile

24 mins now (posters above) to <20 by end of this year seems a tad optimistic to me. Law of diminishing returns etc once you get beyond a certain age wink

Congrats! I got my 50 shirt recently. I was able to order within about 1.5 weeks of completing BUT there was no email alerting me to the new stock. I had to keep logging on each day until it said they were available.

Following a pacer can knock a big chunk off (we don't always have them, but people have asked for a specific pace time on the Facebook group before and somebody usually volunteers if requested).

I did a 25:36 two weeks ago behind a pacer as she was encouraging a small group of us the whole time. That's 11 weeks after my first Parkrun, a 34:11, which incidentally was my first exercise for 4 years since a serious heart condition. I'm only averaging 6 miles per week at the moment in total.

I think for the average 25-30 minute runners there is probably another minute or more in most which is just blocked mentally.

I think that's probably true, I seem to be stuck on 27:30 ish at the moment, having done several weeks at that, my PB is about 26:25 and I was within a couple of seconds of that a couple of months ago and I have no idea how as other that one parkrun I've not been closer than a minute all year, pretty sure the difference is mental and I war trying to keep with someone that week

Thought I'd update my results after this weekend's parkrun;

Week 1 - 38:40
Week 2 - 35:45
Week 3 - 33:41
Week 4 - 32:39
Week 5 - 31:30
Week 6 - 30:04
Week 7 - 33:10 (ran with Mrs MOB as she was getting fed up with running)
Week 8 - 29:33
Week 9 - 28:22

Genuinely surprised by the continued improvement recently, I now think sub 27 minutes is a month away :-)

Weight loss since last Xmas is now 2st 5lbs

Definitely in my case, I am still walking 3 short stints and its 100% mental. Its costing me between 30 and 60 seconds.

Ask yourself why you are stopping in the first place? Is it at the same time/distance/point on the course?

You are better to keep jogging (even if its slowly) than stopping as once you stop once its very difficult to get going again and/or repeating it at the same point on the next lap, etc.

Is it a very hilly park run ?

It's normal to power walk up hills on long distance trail runs as grinding away uphill costs you energy , energy you could save for the flats and downhills.

Not particularly hilly to be honest, just a short steep incline followed by a long gentle incline, just finishes me off!

But I will conquer it :-)

Try walking up the hill then running down it rather than vice versa. As above, it is more efficient to walk up the hills and run down than run up and walk down.

In that case just latch on to who ever is in front of you and let them tow you up the hill.

With running your weight makes a lot of difference and you have to get on top of what you eat to knock the stones off.

I've lost a stone this year and it's making a big difference to my run times compared to jan-april when i was 13.5 stone.

When I first started I found I could go quicker doing run/walk than I could if I just tried to run the whole thing, but having started doing some interval training recently I've found I'm now quite a bit slower than if I just run it all.

Impressed you're doing 28:22 when still walking some of it though.

Do you use a watch or phone app to track your pace? You might find you're doing what I always do which is setting off too quick and then dying part way round, my faster times have generally been when I've managed to keep a more consistent pace.

Better to take it steady the 1st lap ( my park run is 2 laps) then 2nd lap you know you have to go for it and when you know the ends near you can really let rip and just try and catch up/overtake whoever's in front of you.
